Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a 2nd Year Apprentice Welder to be based in our Fort McMurray, Alberta location.

This position will join or sever metals in beams, girders, vessels, piping and other metal components, make metal parts used in construction and manufacturing plants, and weld parts, tools, machines and equipment. Welders develop patterns for projects or follow directions given in layouts, blueprints and work orders, clean, check for defects and shape component parts, sometimes using a cutting torch and weld parts together.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Understand and use SMAW equipment; understand CSA and AWS classification and specifications for SMAW electrodes; perform SMAW fillet welds on mild steel; comprehend production processes and types of iron and steel, carbon steels, alloy steels and alloy steel filler metals; Perform SMAW groove welds on mild steel.
  • Apply safe work practices and procedures when using GTAW; understand and utilize GTAW electrodes, filler metals and gases;; diagnose power source output current problems and implement corrective measures; diagnose GTAW torch and cable assembly problems and implement corrective measures; comprehend and utilize shapes, drawings and drawing equipment, and layout procedures.
  • Able to pass the CWB "S" class ticket in the flat and horizontal postions with either SMAW or FCAW depending on what process is required for the job.
This is a 5-2 shift position.

  • Current Registered Trade Apprentice
  • Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) Certification required

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Requirements:
  • PST (Petroleum Safety Training) Certification
  • H2S Alive Certification
  • First Aid - Standard Level Certificaiton
  • CSE (Confined Space Entry) Certification
  • Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection (OSSA issued ticket is the general requirement) Certification
  • AWP (Aerial Work Platform) Certification
