Engine Performance Development Engineer required for long term contract position with a global leader in the development of diesel engines.|
You will ideally come from a diesel engine development background with experience gained within an R&D environment with knowledge of ignition, emissions, calibration and other performance development subjects.
Candidates will serve as an experienced, individual contributor for engine emissions and performance development projects. Specific assignments are complex in nature and support the performance and emissions development of Perkins engine products.
Requires an accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience and excellent analytical skills.
Incumbents must have gained 4 to 7 years of experience in engine performance and emissions development for Diesel engines.
Specific experience with the development of electronically controlled engines is highly desired. Must have strong technical skills and ability to communicate technical information effectively.
This position is part of a team of engineers responsible for the performance and emissions development of Perkins Diesel engine products.
The engines are used in machine, industrial and electric power applications.
The main responsibilities include engine performance and ratings development work.
This position will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating engine development work, including pre-test planning, reviewing test data to ensure quality, and post-test data analysis.
A key role will be the development of electronic engine calibration maps that will be utilized in the engine control software. Incumbent will be responsible for conducting engine system and rating calibration development for Tier 4 engines to meet customer performance expectations and all emission regulations, troubleshooting issues identified in production test, verification and validation testing, field testing and customer raised concerns.
Summary of Requirements:
a high level of competency in the use of data-analysis tools (e.g. Excel, Minitab, Matlab etc);
the ability to use 'design of experiments' software (e.g. Design Expert, AVL Cameo)
create mathematical response models;
be proficient in the use of ECM calibration tools (e.g. Vector CANape);
be familiar with 1-D simulation tools (e.g. GT-Power); demonstrate an understanding of measurement tolerances and instrumentation requirements; demonstrate the ability to interpret data, identify quality issues and understand performance interactions;
have the potential to develop or improve analysis tools. Technical Knowledge.
demonstrate in-depth understanding of diesel combustion fundamentals, air systems, fuel systems and control systems;
demonstrate knowledge of engine test requirements including testing processes and emissions legislation;
have the ability to take the lead in technical discussions, to specify emissions-related component requirements and to understand the interactions which influence engine calibration optimisation. Communication.
Candidates must demonstrate excellent written and presentation skills and have the ability to listen and adapt to the audience requirements and lead technical presentations with authority.
