Quantity surveyor required for very long term role in the Bristol area. |
Pay will be £300 - £325 per day and this has the potential in turning into a permanent role.
Brief overview of the role and project:
Reporting into the Commercial Manager and day-to-day to the Operations Manager, the Quantity Surveyor is to work closely alongside the Operational team, having the responsibility for the evaluation and submission of Applications for Payment in an accurate and timely manner, cost management, accurate and timely commercial reporting, contract management and mitigation of commercial and contractual risks - for a defined section of a networks term contract / projects.
Accountabilities Knowledge & key skills
To ensure that full recovery is obtained for all works carried out, while working in accordance of the terms of the Main Contract and while not compromising safety.
To understand the cost base, ensure costs are correctly allocated, capture liabilities, and strive to minimise cost.
The accurate reporting of Cost and Value on a Weekly and Monthly basis.
Collating and preparing Applications for Payment in an accurate and timely manner.
Monitoring and striving to minimise the value of work in progress (WIP).
Performing Commercial Administration in accordance with the requirements of the Main Contract.
Undertaking revenue / cost analysis and reconciliations
The Procurement, Engagement (preparation of Subcontract Orders) and management of Subcontractors in accordance with company processes, terms and conditions, incl. HGCRA / LDEDCA legislation requirements, to deliver works profitably (Enquiries/Procurement/Pre-Commencement Meetings/Valuation of Variations/Correspondence/Notices/Payments/Final Accounts).
Advising and leading on any item coverage or measurement queries encountered.
Providing commercial input, advice on commercial opportunities and savings to the management and project teams to maximize commercial benefit.
Pricing, managing and securing payment for contract variations, bonus target payments and contractual claims, ensuring that timely and appropriate contract notices and correspondence are issued.
Ensuring that commercial, bonus schemes and administrative systems, budgets and cost control procedures are in place and operated correctly.
Monthly checking of Head Office Accruals to see if they relate to current contract, whether they are already accrued for on Siteman and so in GRN/PRN figure.
Manage all necessary support functions in line with company processes and procedures, producing relevant information with particular emphasis on commercial.
Minimum 2years experience working as a Contractors Quantity Surveyor in; Utilities / Civil Engineering / Highways
A drive to ensure we capture all of our contractual entitlement due from the client for works carried out.
Ability to minimise and correctly allocate costs and capture cost / Subcontract liabilities.
Experience of Cost and Value Reporting
Experience of Standard Methods of Measurements and Item coverage; ie; CESMM, MMHW, SMM
Experience of pricing Variations / CE s.
Strong data analysis skills are essential
Effective written communication
Understanding and experience of working with internal/external systems.
Experience of working with standard ICE / NEC Contract processes & procedures and bespoke terms.
Ability to identify and resolve or escalate problems identified at an early stage
Able to lead, set up and manage site-based commercial and reporting systems
A hands-on approach with proven ability to run own jobs
Accurate with good attention to detail and highly organised
A competent negotiator, skilled communicator
A Can Do attitude
IT literate and experience in working with MS office Applications and Cost Control systems (eg Siteman)
Able to drive / has a valid UK driving license
Degree/HND or equivalent professional qualification
