Our client provides new build, design and build, repair, maintenance and upgrade services across the Power Transmission & Distribution industry to a wide variety of major utility organisation clients, both in the UK and Worldwide.

The Power T&D Solutions Engineering Department undertakes the specification and design of multi-faceted, technically complex HV projects (up to 500 kV) to be installed by the Operations Department within the UK and overseas. Main Focus

• Reporting to the Group Head of Commercial and the Commercial Director, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all commercial, contractual and financial accountability pertaining to major design and D&B contracts UK and Worldwide
• Management of all commercial / quantity surveying, claims avoidance, commercial risk and advice and legal / statutory undertakings
• To liaise with the main board on key issues and to work closely with the relevant Management teams to achieve the company's aims and goals in relation to this project

Key Tasks

• To control quantity surveying function and commercial reporting
• To protect in a non-adversarial manner, the commercial interests of the business and to communicate progress or issues to the management team
• Maintain and evolve commercial procedures, liaising with the appropriate staff on legal, commercial, contractual and insurance matters
• Advise and assist the Directors in the monitoring of the performance (including financial) of the project
• Proactively manage all commercial responsibilities, ensuring deadlines are achieved and accurate financial management of all projects via relevant commercial procedures
• On an ongoing basis, check and approve the conditions of contract for projects
• Lead the commercial performance and excellence of the project performance, assisting in any appropriate areas in offering help and advice
• Report on risk to the Directors as applicable
• Maintain and evolve policy on commercial, contractual and risk matters and implement on agreement with the Directors
• Overview and manage the procurement process ensuring best practice at all times
• Scrutinise purchase agreements and overview terms with suppliers and sub-contractors (via surveying teams)
• Work closely with the Commercial and Operations Directors on all commercial and contractual matters, offering advice or solutions to issues that may arise
• Maintain harmonious working relationships with the client, all stakeholders and any external professional teams
• Work closely with management teams and staff to forge good project relations
• Play a key role in promoting new innovation, thinking and methods


• To have a proven track record in taking the commercial lead on projects from within a recognised Civil Engineering or Infrastructure contractor/consultancy
• Can demonstrate a minimum of 5 years' experience of a wide variety of projects and be familiar with most forms of contracts
• To have a good understanding of a commercial role the project delivery process including interacting with operational teams and full client liaison
• To have experience of claims avoidance / settlement and able to identify situations and circumvent conflict
• Exposure to prime contracting, supply chain management and non-traditional procurement
• To have well rounded Civil Engineering / Infrastructure knowledge with exposure to general commercial management

• A humanitarian approach to relationships with colleagues, staff, clients and suppliers alike
