Senior Manufacturing Engineer |
Roles and Responsibilities
To lead step change improvements within the operations side of the business as well as implementing lean principles in order to continuing to develop product quality, manufacturing efficiency and costs without conceding health and safety standards.
New Product Introduction
Assess component designs to determine manufacturing methods for the production of new components to ensure that it is fit for purpose and that cost targets are met.
Working as part of multidiscipline team to conduct FMEA s and controls plans to ensure processes are suitably assessed and controlled in accordance with quality targets and expectations.
Determine work flow requirements based on volume, cost and quality targets to ensure single piece flow where possible or present the justifications for either cellular or batch production.
Provide facilities, tools and gauges in line with project timing plans to ensure phase gate readiness.
Manage Departmental Timing Plans and Open Issue Lists to ensure overall project compliance.
To assess new technologies for integration into production in order to maintain a competitive advantage.
To justify capital equipment purchases and to supply the justification to support new product introduction
To provide hands on support to the production team during phase gate sign off to ensure processes meet production targets.
Provide hands on support to the production team to ensure quality, cost and effectiveness targets are met.
To seek out opportunities for improvement, utilising metrics, statistical tools and best practice to drive improvement across production.
Provide board spectrum support to all production processes and employ problem solving and technical tools such as SPC, FMEA and control plans in order to drive data driven improvements in current and new processes.
Implement and develop key benchmarks in order to identify and drive business improvements within the department.
To develop and then implement improvement programs across the department within both standard processes, procedures and systems.
Implement Standard Operating Procedures across all areas of responsibility.
One of the key responsibilities will be ensuring that health and safety awareness across all staff members, you will ensure that health and safety polices are adhered to and promoted.
Create suitable structure for site wide Process Improvement Initiatives.
Identify Process Improvement Projects suitable for Kaizen or team based improvement activity i.e. cost reduction, yield increase, cycle time reduction to create value enhancement for the business.
Co-ordinate project teams and then report on implementation of process improvement projects.
To manage and then identify opportunities to eliminate processes bottlenecks and then to troubleshoot those processes.
Develop and then implement process control techniques and procedures into the production environments.
In conjunction with the quality team, to create and update procedures as needed by the new products and process improvement team.
To mentor and develop of Process Improvement Candidates.
Education, Training & Competencies Requirements:
Advanced academic record with emphasis in Industrial Engineering, Design for Manufacturability/Assembly /Serviceability and some electrical engineering courses.
Experience of Process Engineering within an Operations Environment, including Cell Layout, Manufacturing Process and Work Station Design
Experience in New Product Introduction and associated activities
Experience in Lean Manufacturing Techniques and Six Sigma
Strong problem solving skills and knowledge of PFMEA, SPC and Quality Control Techniques
Knowledge of CAD systems to generate design of parts and tooling
Excellent communication skills in order to communicate will all members of the business
Good understanding of ISO & OHSAS requirements
The ability to assess and then upgrade procedures and systems
Strong commercial acumen
Versatile and a self-starter able to work without supervision
