Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
£Competitive Salary

Our client creates and develops products for the networked, always-on world. Products that monitor, control and connect. Products used in thousands of ways that affect our everyday lives.

Employing over 1,000 people, they deliver these solutions to more than 7,000 distribution partners spanning more than 125 countries, with over 100,000 end-users across all seven continents - and in outer space.

They now have an excellent opportunity for an innovative and methodical Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work as part of the Product Development Team in Cambridge with specific responsibility for mechanical and functional design.

The role covers the entire lifecycle of the product, from initial concept through to design, validation, field trials, release into production and maintenance. You will be completing design work using 3D, 2D CAD and FEA techniques, working with a particular focus on mechanical performance.

With strong skills in the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, you will have experience working with complex precision or electro-mechanical products. The role will require practical experience of designing complex assemblies and mentoring of junior staff. Day to day tasks will also involve designing to achieve the most cost effective solution for manufacture, and as such experience of lean manufacturing would be desired.

You will have an understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, along with a solid understanding of capability studies for designs, jigs and fixtures. Experience with 3D CAD modelling is essential, and Solidworks would be an advantage.

This role requires a team player with strong interpersonal and cross functional working skills, along with a methodical and systematic approach to work. You will be detailed and quality conscious with a strong focus on schedule and delivery and be able to contribute and thrive in an exciting, dynamic and fast moving environment
