Role - Engineering Design Manager
Location - Greater Manchester Region

Reporting into the Engineering Director, the role of Engineering Design Manager involves the efficient management and mentoring of an Engineering Design, Development and Contracts teams comprising of 18 Engineers spanning Design, Draughting, Research and Development and Contracts Management. This position is required to lead the UK based Engineering team in product quality, reliability, cost and delivery whilst innovating new products and solutions that achieve the companies turnover and profitability objectives. Furthermore, the role of Engineering Design Manager involves working with Manufacturing to produce bespoke designed products which are optimised for manufacture, liaise with Product Managers to market new products to enhance customer satisfaction and manage the contracts department to bring about improvements in the delivery of profitable customer contracts in a timely manner. Leading and working as part of a highly skilled close knit team, you will be responsible for the continued development the company's existing products (continuous improvement and VA/VE projects) as well as playing a key part in the development of future products (NPD).
As an Engineering Design Manager, you will be educated to degree level in a Mechanical discipline ideally holding chartered status. As Engineering Design Manager you will have a proven track record of leading the engineering design and development of rotating equipment (Machine Tools, Compressors, Valves, Drives, Turbochargers, Pumps, and Motors etc). A track record of managing and leading a highly skilled team within a precision engineering environment is a pre-requisite for this challenging role. Exposure to rotating equipment component design within an engineering fluid dynamics environment is an ideal requirement together with a working knowledge of general engineering / manufacturing processes such as machining / welding / casting / assembly would be highly advantageous. Candidates who possess customer facing / commercial exposure or experience of leading NPI projects / contracts would have a distinct advantage as would candidates who have led cross-functional design projects. Strong communication, experience of managing budgets and the ability to continually develop a highly skilled design team are prerequisites for this role, as is attention to detail and an enthusiastic approach.
