Manufacturing Operations Manager - Based: Halifax

Basic Salary Circa: £40,000 - £42,000

My client is a highly respected Light to Medium Engineering Manufacturing Business who has been recognised in their industry with many awards including the queen`s award for export on two occasions.

First stage interviews to be held w/c 24th & 31st Oct 2016 with a view commencing in the first quarter of 2017.

Purpose of the job:

Using their strong leadership skills the Manufacturing Operations Manager will ensure that the Operational Departments meet the production plan in the most efficient way possible.

The Manufacturing Operations Manager will ensure that products are produced to the required Quality, in a Safe Manner by facilitating and promoting collaborative working by teams work in line with the company core company values.

Reports to the Operations Manager

For whom responsible:

Machine Shop, Sheet Metal, Electro-Mechanical Department personnel.

Key accountabilities:

Fully devolved HS&E responsibility. Ensure HS&E policies are fully adhered to. Identify and resolve risk in areas of responsibility. Develop a culture of HS&E within areas of responsibility.

Full responsibility and accountability for a suite of Key Performance Indicators, reporting any deviations from expectation with a recovery plan.

Ensuring costs are kept low and budgets are met.

Develop, adopt and promote a Continuous Improvement methodology to reduce costs and improve processes

Coaching and mentoring direct reports to continuously improve their skills, knowledge and expertise. Identifying opportunities and determining the best training and mentoring routes is vital to the success in the role.

Facilitate an agile and flexible workforce within the Operations departments to ensure efficient utilisation of capacity and identify and resolve any shortcomings.

Agreeing on and meeting the production plan to ensure on time delivery in the most efficient manner.

Reporting on any deviations from the production plan with a recovery plan to bridge the gap.

Manage and report on departmental spend and budgets.

Minimise waste and develop strategies to further reduce this cost to the business.

Ensure New Product Development work is managed within Operations to meet the development milestones for the business.

Ensure all policies, reporting and control of documents are maintained.

Carry out all devolved HR responsibilities, including but not limited to Performance Management, Recruitment, Absence Management.


Effective and regular communication within Operations and the wider business is essential. The candidate must be skilled in communication, collaborative working and be a team player.

Employment & Educational Background

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a manufacturing management role over different disciplines.

Experience and knowledge of ERP systems is essential.

A minimum of HND level of education in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.

An Engineering degree with Chartership (or a desire to work towards) would be advantageous.

A relevant management qualification would be an advantage (e.g. Association of Project Managers).

IOSH/NEBOSH Qualification desirable
