PROJECT MANAGER - CIVILS|
Your job is to mobilise and deliver a major regeneration project in the East of London.
What do you think when you see Project Manager? Sat in an office, possibly in a suit, and probably flicking between the tabs of endless spreadsheets fuelled only by a packet of custard creams and a mug of Nescafe Gold Roast (other coffees are available...not other biscuits though, it's all about the custard creams). That's not what we're looking for here.
This job will see you get your hands dirty (extra incentive for you to make sure the welfare units are decent) and really drive the construction process. You've got approx. 350,000 square feet of land to redevelop and it's your job to oversee all of the civils work. It doesn't all rest on you though, you'll get the best team possible to support you. How do we know they'll be the best? Because you'll help us pick them.
You'll ensure that the twelve-month construction schedule is stuck to, and the £22m budget - which you share with the buildings team - is adhered to. It'll be down to you to know the contract inside out and use all your experience to anticipate issues before they arise. Mind-readers, psychics, and anyone with a gift for predicting the future will be given preferential treatment!
My client are a mid-tier civil engineering and building contractor with a strong presence in the Midlands and the North of England. They're firmly establishing themselves in London and the Southern counties as one of the 'New Kids on the Block' to watch out for, even though they've got a history stretching back over 60 years.
You can expect a free reign from the director you report into - support when it's required but otherwise the freedom to deliver the project in the manner and style that your experience tells you is best.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
It's more than likely that you'll have delivered similar large-scale civils or external works projects before. You'll have a civil engineering background, so you can speak credibly about the technical aspects of construction (blaggers and chancers need not apply). Belbin tests will probably show you to have a good mix of roles with a focus on co-ordinator, shaper, and implementer.
We're not looking for superman, but if you're about 90% there then it's definitely worth us speaking.
Good things come to those who wait, but great day rates come to those who join my client. Whilst you can't put a price on experience, the right Project Manager will earn somewhere between £350-£400 a day.
For the truly exceptional candidate, a permanent role will be considered.
