Salary: £40,000 DOE

Location: Oxford

Hours: 37 hours a week

A managerial opportunity has arisen within a world leading science and engineering test facility. Proven managerial experience, some Project Management experience plus practical engineering skills are required. The Technical Services/Test Operations Manager will oversee a team of technicians offering practical engineering support and advice ensuring time scales for delivery of a wide range of projects are met. The Technical Services/Test Operations Manager will also be responsible for coordinating Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) throughout the test facility and the associated workshops.

Applications from ex-military personnel are encouraged.

Overseeing teams utilising construction, mechanical engineering and electrical/electronic skills and expertise, the Technical Services/Test Operations Manager will oversee planning and operations within the facility. An ability to 'see the bigger picture' is required to enable the Technical Services/Test Operations Manager to ensure the planned outcomes are achieved for all projects competing for resources across the facility. The route to the final product can be one that is non-conformist which means the Technical Services/Test Operations Manager must be flexible and able to change and reprioritise with the evolving demands of each project.


Maintaining an overview in relation to staff and resources to ensure that all projects are delivered on time

Provide theoretical and practical engineering support and advice to the Test Operations team and to the facility users

Monitoring and management of facility budget

Devise, plan and implement a service plan ensuring regular maintenance for the facility

Planning preventative maintenance within workshops, on plant and equipment in the facility

Overseeing Asset and Stock register

Ensuring Health and Safety guidelines are upheld at all times throughout the facility

Liaise with Quality Manager on issues relating to the test facilities

Ensure that projects are delivered as efficiently and as cost effectively as possible

Manage documented change control in all areas of the test environment

See the 'bigger picture' and identify development and evolution opportunities to further enhance the standards and reputation of the business

Manage and identify opportunities for training and further professional development of staff

Knowledge, skills and qualifications required:


Proven management experience

Some Project Management experience

Technical skills within the construction, mechanical or electrical engineering sector


Outstanding communication skills

Strong minded




Ability to expect the unexpected and respond positively to the associated challenges this may bring

Able to prioritise and then re-prioritise in response to evolving situations

Able to identify an end goal and how a variety of routes may be taken to achieve it

Good computer skills

Ability to read and produce engineering drawings

Well organised with strong administration skills


Previous experience working in a test facility
