Established machinery manufacturer with a turnover in excess of £20M, this company is experienced in the design and manufacture of automated packaging systems. Their position as international market leader is the result of an exceptionally comprehensive product range, an ability to tailor machines to individual applications and a world-wide network of trade partners providing local expertise and after-sales service.
Due to a successful diversification, they now have an additional requirement for a skilled PLC Control Engineer to join their professional engineering division. The PLC Engineer will ideally possess excellent Siemens capability. You will join them in their purpose built factory where equipment is designed, manufactured, assembled and supported.
A keen, forward thinking person with an excellent eye for detail, you will be completing PLC software to high standards with the opportunity to put forward ideas for improvements and new projects.
Development of software specifications with customer.
Create functional design specification for software.
Create software in most appropriate format and language.
Bench test software before release.
Commission software on and offsite.
Manage updates with other commissioning engineers.
Manage version control.
Report back to management with progress and possible improvements.
Work with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure requirements met.
Feed time scales back to management team for costing and scheduling.
Customer support with software issues.
Systems and documentation development for manuals and training.
The Control Systems Engineer must be capable of writing PLC code in various IEC61131 languages as well as having good Ethernet network knowledge from an IT background. It is essential you have knowledge of bespoke automation machinery, to include the use of electromechanical mechanisms, pneumatics and servo operation. The engineer should be multi-skilled and able to design electrical circuits and then follow the machine through the PLC commissioning phase to final installation at customer premises. Knowledge of safety equipment and standards would be considered advantageous.

You can expect base salary c£32-35k for a 37.5 hour week. All overtime is paid with other benefits to include Pension matched to 5%, Death in Service, 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays and an early finish on a Friday.
