Based near Cambridge, this is a fascinating new role for a senior and highly mathematical Engineer / Scientist with a background in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics or maybe Aerodynamics. The job is with a highly regarded design consultancy which undertakes full product & process R&D projects on behalf of many 'big name' clients from a variety of market sectors. As a Senior or Principal Analytical Engineer, your role will be to conduct mathematical & systems analysis, product modelling and optimisation studies across a wide variety of projects. This could range from using your CFD skills to model the aerosol dispersion in a pharmaceutical inhaler to optimising the efficiency of the thermal cooling system of an industrial laser. The company firmly believe that by analysing, modelling and optimising the fundamental elements of a new product right from the start you can massively reduce the overall design time -and end up with a far more efficient, reliable and cost effective end product.
In addition to the technical aspects of the position, the Senior/Principal Analytical Engineer will also undertake Project Management of key design contracts and actively liaise with end clients which will require excellent communication skills and commercial awareness.

To secure the position of Principal or Senior Analytical Engineer you will need the following:
* An excellent degree ( BSc, BEng, MEng, MPhys etc) in an Engineering or Scientific field such as Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.
* Ideally (but not essentially) an MPhil, PhD or DPhil involving Computational Fluid Dynamics ( CFD ), Thermodynamics, Aerodynamic modelling or similar.
Skills & Experience:
A minimum of around five years post graduate experience involving extensive use of CFD, Thermodynamics and/or aerodynamic modelling and optimisation to solve complex system interactions. The client is open minded on the exact application area but medical devices -eg automated drug delivery systems, robotic surgical equipment or diagnostic instruments etc would be of particular interest.
Extensive use of mathematical programming and modelling tools such as Matlab, Simulink, Excel and possibly Nastran, Patran or similar.
Excellent verbal and written English skills for reporting and presentation purposes.
Ideally experience in project management, man-management or team leadership
