My local Portsmouth client is seeking a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer ideally with a years work experience in the following.

•To ensure all design models meet the project specification, and can be manufactured to a high standard within the agreed timescales

•To Produce suitably accurate drawings to ensure parts and tools can be produced and inspected to a high standard based on meeting the project specification or design requirement

•Work in close liaison with the development team to ensure all design features are understood and reviewed, ensuring the CAD models are stable and free from errors

•Interact with suppliers and the Far East technical manager to ensure designs and any changes made are understood and any issues dealt with in a timely manner so that parts are available on time

•Ensure issues or delays are communicated to the Engineering Project manager in a timely manner

•Ensure project priorities and commitments are understood and any problems are communicated to the Engineering Project manager or escalated to the Head of Product Development

•Attend and contribute to design and project reviews as required ensuring actions are recorded and actioned in agreed timescales or within a timely manner to a high standard

•Conduct detailed and accurate sample approval assessments for produced parts based on drawings and 3D models ensuring errors or changes are clearly communicated to the supplier and Engineering Project Manager

•Management of existing CAD models and drawings ensuring company documentation control procedures are followed in detail and the models and drawings are maintained to a high standard following sound CAD modelling practices

•Ensure ECRs are produced, followed and approved when making changes to any controlled models or documents

•Ensure appropriate concessions are raised and actioned should you chose to accept a deviation from the agreed specification of a part or assembly

•Propose suggestions, ideas and improvements and identify risks or concerns you may have to the Engineering Team that you may have during design reviews or during your normal working day

•Maintain and run the 3D printer to ensure it is able to produce high quality models

•Provide support to the Development team as required which may involve BOM creation, mechanical testing, jigs and fixture design and build, sample production, Design-to-Production handover duties and other tasks to ensure a product can be manufactured first time to a high standard

Essential skills/experience

•CAD Drawing and design using Solidworks 3D
•Experience producing parts for injection moulding
•Demonstrate sound troubleshooting techniques
•Ability to work on multiple projects
•Meticulous, disciplined approach to work with a high level of accuracy
•Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
•Willing to support others to meet the needs of the business
•Proficient in essential Microsoft Office programmes Desirable
•Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent
•Experience producing sheet metal parts
•Experience in designing for both industrial and domestic environment products
•AutoCAD 2D
•Epicor experience (or working with manufacturing BOMs)
•Experience in a medium-high volume manufacturing environment
•Experience in product realisation and considerations for manufacturing
