Job Summary

As an experienced CAD Technician you will be able to demonstrate a high level of technical capability within the railway civil engineering field, who can deliver CAD support to our existing civils design team.

Your experience to date will have included involvement in key civils elements of railway engineering such as bridges, stations and other railway structures including ancillary equipment foundations etc and will cover reinforced concrete and structural steelwork detailing. In this role we would aim to further develop experience of railway engineering and continue to develop design and CAD skills.

The work will be mainly based in Glasgow working with our multi-disciplinary rail team working on prestigious projects such as Aberdeen to Inverness enhancement but may involve some short trips and site visits around the UK.
The post reports to the CSE CAD Manager and to various Project and Engineering Managers on a project basis.

Operational & Interpersonal
  • Undertake CAD work for various design projects using AutoCAD (Microstation also a benefit)
  • Accurate and reliable production of project drawings
  • Apply professional CAD expertise within projects worked on
  • Prepare drawings from sketches supplied by engineers
  • Undertake RC Detailing using suitable software such as CADS-RC
  • Develop 3D Modelling skills
  • Understand importance of accuracy and high quality presentation
  • An ability to work effectively as part of project teams but also under own initiative as appropriate
  • Communicates effectively
  • Develops strong working relations inside and outside the team to achieve common goals
  • Takes personal responsibility for making things happen and achieving results
  • Understands how his/her role contributes to URS's success; actions demonstrate this understanding

  • Be aware of and contribute to the goals of both the Company and Unit Business Plan

  • Manage own performance and ensure deadlines are met, managing time efficiently and being able to prioritise duties
  • Be able to prioritise tasks using initiative, communication and tools available, understand priorities

  • Assist with development of junior staff

Minimum Requirements
  • Proven relevant previous experience, some in a railway sector desirable, previous experience in production of CAD drawings of civil engineering design projects
  • Fully proficient in use of AUTOCAD, some knowledge of Microstation beneficial
  • Reinforced Concrete Detailing and Scheduling using suitable software such as CADS-RC of benefit
  • Structural Steelwork Detailing experience of benefit
  • Use of Bentley Projectwise drawing/model management systems

Preferred Qualifications
  • HNC in Civil Engineering or other appropriate qualification in relevant subject
