BAE Systems require a Senior Functional Safety Engineer to support the Type 26 Marine Systems Technical Authorities and Systems Integration Lead in planning, coordinating and conducting effective delivery of Product Safety Management. It's an initial 6 month contract paying £42.35/hr. |
Purpose of role
To provide specialist Product Safety skills to the broader Marine Systems team,
To co-ordinate and conduct the day-to-day Product Safety activities of the Type 26 Marine Systems team.
To support the Type 26 Product Safety Manager in providing relevant evidence for the Type 26 Safety Case
Major Tasks and Activities
Conduct Product Safety assessments on behalf of the Marine Systems Technical Authorities including but not limited to Fault Tree Analysis, FFA, FHA and HAZID,
Ensure safety requirements / mitigations are appropriately scoped and captured within the relevant toolsets (DOORS and SMARTer),
Produce Product Safety Justification Papers and/or System Design Safety Assessments
Work with the Core PS Team to organise and facilitate the Product Safety meetings and/or Safety Working Groups as required,
Organise and facilitate HAZIDs and review meetings and contribute to other HAZIDs when required,
Work with the Core PS Team to manage the hazards, risks and associated mitigations and contribute to the development of the hazard log and the maturity of information contained within,
Review the responses back from OEM supplied deliverables to ensure deliverable material is compliant with corporate and customer requirements,
Assisting with relevant Certification.
Key Technical Skills
Able to demonstrate understanding and experience of the safety analysis of the functional operation of complex systems
Appreciation of functional failure hazards and software risk mitigation requirements.
Experienced in risk management, this will include hazard identification, analysis, risk assessment and risk mitigation
Competent with applying formal hazard / safety assessment techniques and methods such as:-
HAZID (Hazard Identification)
HAZOPS (Hazard and Operability studies
FFA (Functional Failure Analysis)
FHA (Functional Hazard Analysis)
SWIFT (Structured What-If Technique)
FTA/ETA (Fault/Event Tree Analysis)
FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) etc.
Confident with assisting engineers develop strategies for hazard removal and risk reduction
Able to write Product Safety Justification Papers and Safety Case Reports.
Appreciation of the supply chain process for managing Product Safety requirements.
Experience and knowledge of Life Cycle Management (LCM), its requirements and application
Appreciation of the relationship between Product Safety and Product Environmental Management.
Able to demonstrate a track record of managing safety issues in large or complex projects. Typically five years’ experience in delivering naval projects for the MoD or a defence or related industry
A wide knowledge of Product / Ship Safety management practices
Knowledge of quality management, configuration control and audits
Good working experiences in more than one phase of the Life Cycle Management (LCM) framework, with sufficient experience of the total LCM to enable a good understanding of adjacent phases and through life engineering issues
Knowledge of customer (Ship/ System Safety) standards such as:-
