Job Summary
Payroll officer to assist with processing payroll for 1,000 individuals spread across South Africa, but also other African countries. The payroll department consist of 2 individuals reporting directly to the finance department. Payroll is administrators using the Sage VIP system.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Accurate, timeous and consistent end to end processing of company payroll (monthly salaries; annual increases and bonuses).
  • Maintenance of payroll system (Sage VIP and Oracle) and leave administration system.
  • Processing and administration of all additional pay related allowances.
  • Responsible for accurate and complaint payroll system setup.
  • Updating and maintaining payroll records.
  • Administration and maintenance of employee benefits in accordance with Committee decisions, Fund rules and the Companies Remuneration Policy.
  • Liaising with staff and management on payroll and employee benefit related queries.
  • Manage and conduct month-end and year-end statutory requirements.
  • Reconciliation and payment of PAYE, UIF and SDL.
  • Reconciliation of payroll related GL accounts.
  • Liaison with Compensation Fund.
  • Meet monthly, bi-annual and annual statutory deadlines.
  • Accurate and timeous delivery of ad hoc, monthly and annual HR Reports.
  • Understand payroll tax and compliance requirements across multiple countries on the African continent.
  • Coordinate the processing of -1,000 employees.
  • Liaise with HR SSC to coordinate upload of new employees.
  • Reconcile payroll to Finance & Accounting for time spent and payroll cost.
  • Resolve escalated payroll issues.
  • Process, review and approve paperwork.
  • Other duties may be assigned on an as-needed.

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on payroll experience; processed payroll for multi-country company of 1000 employees; CPP designation preferred.
  • Experience in Sage VIP and Oracle finance systems.
  • Reconcile and submit all tax systems - monthly, yearly.

  • Finance related qualification, preferably Certified Payroll Professional and VIP Payroll.
