We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to be based in Derby.

The purpose of the job.

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager organizes methods activities to support manufacturing with the adequate technical documentation and ongoing support, fosters Design for Manufacturing, standardization and lead KPI based performance measurement and improvement, especially in Productivity, Built-in Quality, Standardization and Responsiveness.

Key responsibilities and challenges
  • Responsible for the performance of the Methods department and activities. Develop schedules for Methods activities required to meet production needs on time, in full and on quality. Manage all Technical and administrative aspects within Methods for a given product line. Manage operational budget and KPIs to effectively measure and improve Methods performance.
  • Ensure that all required build documentation is produced in line with project timescales and reflects current manufacturing practice in a standard format. Ensure manufacturing BoMs are produced within the pre-defined timescales. Supervise change management process, making sure that all technical changes are coordinated and sufficiently documented.
  • Short and midterm scoping, planning and follow-up of Methods staff activities, forward looking resource planning and competency management. Develop, train and mentor employees including Methods engineers and graduate trainees.
  • Follow-up status of all contract related Methods tasks, initiate and track countermeasures or corrective actions when necessary. Closely liaise with the Project(s) Engineering to ensure that engineering data is available in a timely and user friendly manner. Drive deployment of DFMA and 3P.
  • Support the continuous improvement of the bid and production management processes and implement initiatives to reduce vehicle repair/overhaul costs and improve product safety, quality and reliability.

Your Experience and Qualifications

We believe you are educated to degree level in an engineering discipline, and have proven experience of Managing in a Manufacturing/Production engineering environment, through 5 - 7 years of relevant working experience.
  • Profound understanding of manufacturing engineering and all interfacing functions in a project.
  • Knowledge and experience of engineering and manufacturing processes, tools, relevant KPI' s, IT-systems, CAD, BOS & SMB, Supply Chain requirements. Comprehension of Project Management and Finance. Problem solving and judgment skills to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems.
  • Demonstrates sound and comprehensive communication and diplomacy skills. Is open for challenges and striving for continuous improvement, motivating and engaged.
