We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of HES Ops Specialist in our Permian Resources group based in Sheffield, Texas.

This Health, Environment, & Safety (HES) Specialist position responsibilities include health, environmental, and safety oversight within our facilities and construction group at all of Oxy's locations in both Texas and New Mexico that are associated with the Permian Resources Business Unit. This position will require travel throughout Oxy's location in both Texas and New Mexico.

Essential Duties:
  • This position is the focal point for integrating HES practices into daily operations of a cross-functional team which includes operations and support functions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: implementing programs, procedures, practices, and processes to ensure compliance with the Company's HES strategies such as:
  • Safe work systems/permit-to-work, e.g., hot work, energy isolation, confined space entry, ground disturbance
  • Behavioral-based safety/POWER2 program
  • Waste management, pollution prevention, waste minimization, and spill response planning
  • Emergency response planning, including annual emergency/fire drills
  • Gas monitoring instrument management, e.g., 4-gas monitors, personal H2S monitors, etc.
  • Fire/safety equipment inspection and maintenance oversight
  • HES Management System implementation and monitoring
  • Contractor safety management
  • Manage HES files for the plant/field
  • HES incident investigation, reporting and root cause analysis, e.g., TapRooT®
  • Plant/field inspections/audits of processes with regard to HES requirements
  • HES training/safety meetings for company employees and core contract personnel
  • Other essential duties include: HES presentations, report writing, development of training programs, and interpretation of data, standards, codes, regulations and providing HES leadership and technical expertise to company and contract personnel at all levels *LI-YN1

  • 3 years of HES experience in the oil and gas industry and/or a B.S. or two year Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering or Environmental Practices (experience will be considered in lieu of degree)
  • Knowledge and training in safety, environmental and health practices to include interpretation of data, standards, codes and regulations(e.g., NFPA, OSHA- PSM, ANSI/ASSE, API, etc.)
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently without continuous direction
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Computer skills - Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills
  • Willingness/ability to spend /- 75% working in the plant/field in support of contractor and employee HES management
  • Ability to work in a PSM plant with high volumes of sour natural gas and enrolled in the plant respiratory protection program
  • Have a valid driver's license with an excellent driving record
  • Must be able to work 7 on and 7 off rotation schedule. Housing will be provided during the on time.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred
  • Demonstrated self-development activities - continued education, participation in special projects
  • CSP, OHST, CSHO, or other safety-related credentials or certifications desired
  • Facilities and Construction background desired
