Manchester- (Grade 4)
Arup is a firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services globally.
We are different to most other consultants. As we are employee-owned, we are not bound by shareholder or other external pressures, which allows us to be selective about the work we pursue, seeking out projects that will push, develop and engage our staff, and shape a better world.
We are a key player in the currently vibrant UK highways market, and our business is enjoying a period of significant growth. Working closely with our clients, we continue to take a whole-life view of project delivery and are proud to be in a position to provide a total design and advisory service. We have invested heavily in research and development initiatives to help understand the key forces driving the shape of our sector. This insight has enabled us to plan for a future which links highway design and management expertise with a rapidly expanding digital environment.
Nationally we are engaged in significant highways projects such as the M4 Corridor around Newport, the Forth Replacement Crossing and the A303 between Amesbury and Berwick Down. Client involvement includes Highways England frameworks such as CDF and SPaTS, the Smart Motorway Programme, and several design and build links with major contractors.
Our expertise is also a critical component of a multidisciplinary offer on projects such as HS2 and Crossrail. Approximately 1200 staff work on highway projects in the UK each year, successfully delivering integrated, multidisciplinary projects for our clients.
We currently have several opportunities for experienced Engineers to join our Highways business based at our Campus site in Manchester. As a Highways Engineer with Arup, you will report into the Team lead or project manager and will join a design-focused team as part of a large major projects group.
Day to day role of a Highways Engineer will include:
* Responsible for managing your own work (designs, drawings, calculations, reports, etc.) as part of a design team
* Ensuring that all work is quality checked to certify compliance with local Arup Management System Assurance procedures
* Demonstrating highways experience in one or more areas of technical capability such as alignment, junction design, drainage, pavement, signs and road markings
* Travelling within the UK to other Arup sites will occasionally be required
You will have ability in, and demonstrable experience of, the application of 3D highway design software packages (e.g. InRoads, MX) on major highways and have experience in the UK and / or overseas highways industry.
Additionally we are looking for:
* A Civil engineer with post-graduation experience, or Design technician with post-qualification (HNC/HND) experience
* Actively working towards IEng, CEng or similar status
* Design skills of benefit would include knowledge and experience of relevant highway design codes (e.g. DMRB)
* Design experience in general technical aspects of highway design would be advantageous - such as drainage, road signs and lines, pavement, and liaison with statutory undertakers
What we're looking for in you:
You will have great communication skills and be able to demonstrate highly effective networking skills. You will be self-motivated and enthusiastic with a proactive approach to problem solving.
Rewards & Benefits:
We offer a competitive salary at all levels and one of the best benefits package in our sector. Core benefits include Private Medical Insurance, Life Assurance, Accident Assurance and Income Protection cover. You will also have access to a grade-related Flexible Benefit Fund which you can choose to take as extra cash or spend on a wide range of Choice benefits to help you with your work/life balance and financial security.
In addition all permanent employees are eligible for the Global Profit Share Scheme where employees could receive two Profit Share payments per year.
