About the Business Line
AECOM's Global Support Services (GSS) organization resides within AECOM's Government business line and is comprised of three divisions - International Development, Operations and Mission Support, and Global Programs. GSS has the international presence, personnel networks and procurement infrastructure to deliver support for any mission, anywhere. We optimize the reliability, availability and sustainability of equipment, logistics systems and facilities for clients around the world. GSS supports the U.S. Government, non-U.S. Governments and industry clients with worldwide program management, planning, design, operations and maintenance, logistics, aviation services, security, international development, environmental and civil engineering and mission and intelligence support.
Produces replacement parts and new parts in making repairs of metal parts of mechanical equipment. Work involves most of the following: interpreting written instructions and specifications, planning and laying out of work, using a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments, setting up and operating standard machine tools. This incumbent is responsible for the shaping of metal parts to close tolerances, making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machining; knowledge of the working properties of the common metals, selecting standard materials, parts, and equipment required for this work; and fitting and assembling parts into mechanical equipment. In general, the machinist's work normally requires a rounded training in machine-shop practice, usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Carries out assignments which require special adaption and extensions of the use of conventional machine tools and the use of specialized and nonconventional machine tools such as jig borers, jig grinders, hobbing machines, hob grinders, gear generators, computer numerically controlled (CNC) and numerically controlled (NC) machine tools. Independently plans and lays out work, sets up and operates machine tools, and performs bench and assembly work.

• AECOM has an opportunity for qualified Machinist at Solomons Island MD on our GSE Equipment contract.
• High School graduate or equivalent with a minimum three (3) years actual and recent depot level aircraft structural maintenance / repair experience is required.
• Must have completed military aviation maintenance training or aviation maintenance technical school curriculum or possess an FAA issued A&P license.
• Candidates with prior U.S. aviation experience will be preferred.
• Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks is mandatory.
• Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks.
• May be required to pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check.
• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
