Our clients Heritage Asset Consultancy division in requires an MRICS qualified Building Surveyor with experience of heritage and historic buildings conservation and who has a passion for developing a career in this specialist field.

To provide professional Building Surveying services applying the principles of management, care and conservation of historic buildings including the appraisal and delivery of Listed Building schemes. Practice areas will include technical consultancy, project delivery and business advisory within the historic built environment across both the public and private sectors.
The role will include provision of professional and technical due diligence advice and the delivery of designs, specifications and project management for the undertaking of refurbishments, repairs, maintenance and rehabilitation schemes and for a variety of client types.

You will have good Building Surveying, project delivery and consultancy skills and an understanding of how these attributes can be maximised in a multi-disciplinary working environment relative to the historic built environment.

Essential: Candidates must have demonstrable experience in/ capacity for the following:

Working knowledge and application of conservation/heritage principles, philosophy and practice
Experience carrying out the following on a wide variety of buildings, including those listed and of historical importance:
Design, specification and contract administration for building repair, maintenance, refurbishment, rehabilitation, remodelling and improvement works
Building surveys & reports, including condition and compliance
Technical due diligence & acquisition/vendor's surveys
Heritage/architectural assessments, including Statements of Significance, Heritage Impact Assessments and Conservation Management Plans
Advising regarding legal governance around heritage & listed buildings, including preparing and submitting planning & listed building consents, including producing Heritage Statements
Defect analysis & reporting, including providing advice on appropriate traditional and alternative methods of repair and rehabilitation
Feasibility studies and viability appraisals
Plans for the forward maintenance, repair and care of historic buildings including Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedules and/or Quinquennial and Quadrennial survey reports
Preparing outline budget estimates of costs as preparation for works and projects
Good knowledge of both traditional and modern building construction technology, including identification of age, styles and materials
Preparing reports identifying materials, periods of construction (including historic alterations), typical defects/problems
Experience of controlling quality and the timely delivery of projects.

Diverse knowledge gained from work in both Public and Private Sectors, with Consultancy background.
Experience working on bids, tenders, pitches and fee submissions
Experience of grant funding
Experience in Project Management
Advising on striking the delicate balance between conservation and commercial interests, e.g. relative to client's business plans and the property market
Experience undertaking building history research
Experience of advising on the benefits of Heritage Partnership Agreements and the Enterprise & Regulatory Reform Act etc
Implementation of sustainable strategies for conservation
Business plans and funding advice
Historic landscape and townscape characterisation
What you have to offer:

MRICS qualified or equivalent, with at least 2 years PQE
Qualified Surveyor or Intermediate Surveyor grade, or equivalent
A good professional track record with a desire for a progressive career specialising in heritage/conservation

A clear thinking person demonstrating attention to detail who is well organised and can operate independently under a broad direction

Postgraduate or Masters qualification in heritage/building conservation or similar
Accreditation in building conservation from RICS, IHBC or similar
Client focused individual with an ability to recognise and deliver client centric capabilities and value propositions
A broad thinker who can take a commercial view of property and asset management within the historic built environment
