My client is a regional contractor with a reputation for delivering excellent projects on time and to budget and has superb staff retention. They are currently looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to join their business on a permanent basis. Responsible to the Senior Leadership team, the Quantity Surveyor (QS) will be responsible for pre and post contract cost plans, budgeting for bid and construction phase works, cost modelling, subcontract orders and associated commercial responsibilities.|
Reporting to the Construction Director, the Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for developing robust pre-contract elemental cost plans, then following financial close, manage and control the commercial aspects of the projects.
The successful person will have the following essential skills:
Pre-Contract project development stage
•Develop a robust elemental costing.
•Collate and manage bid budget.
•Quantify project risks and cost accordingly.
•Agree figures with internal team & client representatives.
•Support the design development process with the Project team.
•Advise on design cost implications to ensure client budgets are achieved.
Development and implementation of the business infrastructure and systems
•Implement and monitor all systems and procedures and ensure effective operation.
•Ensure effective communication to all parties.
•Maximise efficiency of reporting techniques/systems.
•Utilise and develop company I.T. systems currently in place.
•Support internal Commercial team and develop financial controls.
Overall performance of the contract
•Review cost model, set challenge budget for team to achieve and monitor/report monthly.
•Place subcontract orders in accordance with the main contract.
•Advise other project surveyors and site management team of opportunities to maximise values and minimise costs.
•Agree valuations with client and ensure payment within time.
•Agree final accounts with client and supply chain.
•Pro-actively report to client any commercial implication of instructions received.
•Monitor internal expenditure against budget, produce contract variation reports to time, and report exceptions to Senior Management.
Supplier relationship development
•Monitor and report performance (good and bad, internally and externally, and take appropriate action)
•Provide or ensure provision of supplier feedback and ensure utilisation by rest of team.
•Monitor distribution of workload amongst subcontractors.
•Introduce quality subcontractors into the company.
Key skills and attributes

•Hold a full driving licence, valid in the UK.
•Previous experience within a competitive and successful surveying/commercial team or department.
•Have experience within a Health, Education and/or Commercial sector
•A positive and professional attitude.
•Ability to work using own initiative but also as part of a close knit team.
•Excellent levels of computer literacy, and be fluent in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
•Have a proactive attitude towards delivering construction works to a world-class standard.
•Hold excellent communications skills and the ability to liaise with senior clients & subcontractors.
•Possess good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a variety of tasks.
•Possess a positive approach to learning, development and progression.
•Have a flexible outlook towards hours worked (some out of hours working may be required).
•Have working knowledge of current Health and Safety practice.
Alongside the above, further desirable skills for this position are:
•Previous knowledge working with public sector clients
•Hold a professional qualification in Quantity Surveying
•Previous experience and/or training on BIM (Building Information Modelling)
