2nd/3rd Line Engineer

Premier are recruiting for a 2nd/3rd line engineer in the north Cambridge area starting off as a 3month contract with the view to go permanent, paying between £140-£170 a day. The client, an ever growing support company, want a 2nd/3rd someone to join their team and assist and grow the business. Some of the skills required are: Windows Server, Exchange, Active Directory, Office 365, SQL.

The Role

This role is needed to help deliver the whole range of IT support as a 2nd/3rd line Engineer needed by our customers, guide other staff members, and support the owner in his focus on account management and running a growing business. This role will offer the right person the opportunity to experience a vast range of IT solutions, in a multitude of business environments, demonstrate their problem solving abilities, organisation and prioritisation skills, and flexibility when embracing daily challenges! This work requires a highly organised, detail and customer focussed approach, with significant multi-tasking requirements. Quickly picking up our ways of working and being able to take initiative are also key. A typical day could include a range of tasks from connecting a DOS based CNC router to a Windows server, to specifying a CCTV system, to remotely fixing an Outlook mailbox corruption on a laptop in Sudan, to finding an obscure part to repair a 10-year-old Windows NT box! There will be a lot of parallel tasks, so prioritisation and time/task management skills are very important. We expect to deliver the very highest levels of technical and customer service so you must be prepared to take responsibility, represent the company with integrity and be a diligent, hardworking, reliable team player.


Key responsibilities will include:

* Providing remote and onsite customer support primarily second/third line
* Customer IT project management
* Systems monitoring and management
* Liaising with customers in person, by phone and email
* Helping to monitor/maintain the highest levels of customer service
* Helping with sales and support quotes
* Supporting and developing internal IT systems
* Helping with GSL staff technical development
* IT documentation, internal and customer
* Supplier liaison

Required Skills/Experience

* Strong problem solving skills
* Strong skills in Microsoft systems including all versions of Windows server (particularly SBS),
* Exchange (incl Office 365), SQL Server
* Strong skills with networking, firewalls, wireless, internet connections, incl DNS, DHCP, Active Directory,
* Web hosting, development and administration experience - particularly Wordpress/Joomla
* setup, migration and management
* Extensive experience in a wide range of large and small business/IT environments
* Scripting skills with DOS batch and PowerShell
* Experience with ticketing/helpdesk systems
* Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The standard working week is 40 hours Monday to Friday - as with most IT roles, there may be some

need for evening and weekend working.
