Looking for a Design Manager to manage all areas of design within the automation business unit. Managing the process of concept development with the sales team.
*The management of the design team and all activities related to the engineering design process within the automation business unit.

*Oversee and ensure that the technical standards and procedures for all design work is completed in line with the company standards.
*Ensure the programme of work is aligned with the project plan and to monitor and track progress.
*Ensure the appropriate level of resource is availability and appropriate allocation is made to each project.
*Assist in defining the scope and objectives of each project, involving all relevant stakeholders and well as ensuring the projects are technically feasibility.
*Complete duties within the companies operating standards, code of conduct and legal responsibilities.
*Manage all projects within their targets for revenue and costs set by the customer contract and the business.
*To take full responsibility of the design team in the design and development of bespoke automated systems in line with the customer requirements.
*To manage and advice the sales team in the development of system concepts.
*Support the preparation and presentation of sales proposals in assistance to and as required by the sales team.
*Provide support and assistance to the production team on any technical issues related to the design and manufacture of the system.
*Have a good understanding and monitor the financial requirements of all relevant projects relative to the engineering design work and successfully control costs within these requirements.
*Understand and monitor the design milestones across all relevant projects and ensure that progress is being made to achieve these on a day by day basis.
*Coordinate internal resources and third parties / vendors in relationship with engineering design and in line with the project requirements to enable the flawless execution of projects
*Ensure that comprehensive project documentation is created and maintained in line with project requirements and the company procedures.
*Measure the performance of the design team using appropriate tools and techniques.
*Ensure the design team maintain their technical knowledge, look for opportunities to develop this knowledge and to actively develop the overall team capabilities.

*To manage post installation design work associated with the support and maintenance of installed equipment, and ensure these activities are properly documented.
*To actively seek new business opportunities, alerting the sales team to any opportunities identified.
*To identify potential improvements to company products (whether driven by customer feedback, the availability of new technology or other means) and communicate these clearly and effectively to other Automation Business Unit staff.
*To represent the company when meeting clients and suppliers, assisting with the provision of technical information in a presentable, informed, courteous and timely manner.
*Travel both within the UK and overseas
*Proven working experience in design management in the engineering sector
*Proven working experience in engineering design in the engineering sector, preferably in industrial automation and / or complex engineering projects.
*Solid technical background with understanding and / or hands-on experience in industrial automation development and automation technologies
*Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
*Strong capabilities in the use of CAD modelling systems, preferably SolidEdge.
*Engineering degree qualified.
*Have a min 5 years' current experience working within the automation machine development industry
