Job Title: Senior Bridge Inspector (ASC)|
Reporting to: Bridge Inspection Manager (ASC)
•Plan, undertake and supervise structures inspections ensuring that they are carried out safely on the Network with all recorded defects being managed to maintain the Clients Structures in a good and safe condition.
•Assist with technical support and call out to the day to day running and development of the bridges team management of incidents to structures to a safe outcome.
Tasks/Responsibilities as follows:
•Assist the Bridge Inspection Manager in ensuring that all the HA and EM processes & procedures for H&S and Bridge/Structures Inspections are followed. Ensure compliance with the EM 'Integrated Management System' (IMS) within own workload.
•Assist the Bridge Inspection Manager with the planning of annual routine inspection programme based on the HA database cycles, including SI's where appropriate
•Supervise and carry out designated Routine Inspections of highway structures to meet HA targets. This will primarily be the GI & PI programme, and an assignment of SI's & survey tasks on study or feasibility type work.
•To undertake the inspections & identify/supervise testing to Highways Agency standards in the Inspection Manual for Highway Structures and also DMRB.
•Identify and report Maintenance Actions on HA Databases (e.g. SMIS), and/or alternative agreed formats; identify defects for maintenance work with outline costs, recommend suitable solutions, and areas for further inspection SI's or monitoring.
•Record on the computerised Bridge Management System, the routine inspection data, and carry out the required inventory updates and resilience recommendations.
•Producing technical documents and reports to appropriate standards. To complete relevant forms & paperwork as role requires in a timely manner.
•To be able to work nights and unsocial hours as required by the inspection programmes.
•To operate plant & equipment relevant to role (Within appropriate Training).
•As required liaise with Statutory Undertakers who wish to place plant or equipment on bridges.
•Required to respond or assist to the occasional emergency call out or incident on bridges and highway structures, including out of normal hours. Recording details of bridge strikes where appropriate in the management of incidents to structures to a safe outcome.
•To assist the Bridge Inspection Manager to promote, plan and execute Special Inspections (SI's) as required in conjunction with the Principle Inspection (PI) programme.
•Deputise for the Bridge Inspection Manager when required.
Typical Skills/Experience as follows:
•BSc/HNC/HND in appropriate subjects or equivalent and ideally a professional member of the ICE or equivalent e.g. IEng.
•Typically a seasoned professional with extensive experience of bridge inspections & testing, and civil engineering. Ideally some construction site experience and knowledge of bridge construction.
•Good interpersonal and mentoring skills with colleagues.
•Able to adapt to client requirements. Working knowledge of HA SMIS an advantage.
•Have detailed knowledge of the Highways Agency Inspection Manual for Highway Structures, and working knowledge of DMRB, particularly relative to bridge inspection. Also, working knowledge of all UK inspection standards and international inspection standards such as DIN, AASHTO an advantage.
•Capable of working with minimal supervision, and will be comfortable working at heights, over water and (occasionally) at night. Good level of fitness and competent swimmer.
•Can deliver good written reports and communicate orally. Also, good technical reporting and computer skills are essential.
•Valid UK Driving licence is essential.
•Experienced in a wide variety of structures repair techniques and a good portfolio of varied structures experience an advantage.
•Working knowledge of NDT testing, and UKAS or other testing accreditation an advantage.
•Self - Motivated and able to work to deadlines/targets.
•Proven track record of H&S training and qualifications (e.g. current CSCS, confined space, MEWP operator/IPAF, and PTS training/certification all an advantage etc.).
