About the Business Line
Building Engineering
We deliver creative solutions for building projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors. Our building engineering specialists have expertise in structural and building services engineering, fire engineering, acoustics, facades and seismic design. We embed sustainability principles in every design.

Job Summary
Our London office is currently seeking a full time Principal Consultant to work within our sustainable development team.

The team is broad and the projects we deliver are diverse however we are specifically seeking someone to develop and support projects relating to urban resilience. Our work in this area is typically either integrated with our wider strategic planning and design team or supporting standalone programmes such as 100 Resilient Cities, pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation or the UNISDR Making Cities Resilient Campaign. We currently have active projects in Rotterdam, Lisbon, London, Paris and Istanbul.

As a Principal Sustainability Consultant, your main responsibilities will include:
  • Carrying out urban resilience analysis and consultation
  • Ensuring continued development and evolution of AECOM's urban resilience strategy tools
  • Support of the global climate change and urban resilience practice
  • Managing client liaison / project management
  • Managing project costs, both internal and from sub-consultants
  • Preparation of bids
  • Developing new opportunities and growing AECOM's external network in the urban resilience space
  • Seeking opportunities to connect the wider business to opportunities arising from strategic urban resilience work (e.g. connecting with the AECOM water team regarding drainage masterplanning in Lisbon or the AECOM energy team to sustainable energy bids being submitted in Rotterdam)

Minimum Requirements
  • Degree educated or similar in Physical sciences, Environmental science
  • Some level of Environmental Impact Assessment experience
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting cities to develop urban resilience strategies or other major city scale strategies (e.g. climate change, sustainability)
  • Be a proactive networker able to see and make connections across discipline areas and / or local government departments
  • Experience of stakeholder management
  • Working knowledge of local government systems and processes
  • Able to prepare proposals for new opportunities

Proven post graduate experienc e
Currently possess professional accreditations, or willing to work towards formal environmental or sustainability training
