Job Title Qualification Engineer Work Location Christchurch - 1 Airfield Road JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities and Duties - Develop qualification plans for new and existing products and understand where efficiencies can be made by combining tests from different standards (e.g. MIL-STD and DO-160). - Identify appropriate test houses and test equipment to support the qualification plans. - Develop qualification test procedures in accordance with the qualification plans. - Liaise with internal and external test houses and carry out qualification testing in accordance with the qualification test procedures. This will involve all aspects of qualification including environmental, EMC and crash survival testing. - Generate formal qualification test reports for certification evidence including summary reports. - Report and manage failures that occur during qualification activities. - Ensure full traceability and repeatability of all qualification testing that is carried out. - Carry out acceptance test procedures as part of the qualification activity. - Design test fixtures and equipment such as break out boxes and wiring looms. - Maintain current knowledge within their area of technical specialisation and ensure the benefit of this knowledge is realised within the company. - Support continuous improvement of company processes for qualification testing. - Ensure allocated tasks are completed in accordance with the applicable project plan. - Attend and actively contribute to the effective operation of applicable design reviews. - Provide definition of work packages to support project planning and bidding. - Generate work package reports for allocated work packages. Job Purpose - Responsible for all qualification activities across two integrated project teams. - To complete all allocated tasks within the time and budget specified within the work package definitions. Qualifications & Experience Essential Criteria: - Significant knowledge of all aspects of DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-464 and MIL-STD-461. - Experience of writing qualification test procedures and reports. - Experience of carrying out a variety of different qualification tests including environmental and EMC. - Experience of designing test fixtures and equipment such as wiring looms and break out boxes. Desirable Criteria: - Some mechanical design experience would be useful (ie Solidworks). - Some knowledge of EMC and how to improve EMC performance. - Some knowledge of hardware design and the ability to analyse schematics and use hardware associated test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, multimeters, etc. - Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS. Core Competencies - Able to undertake all activities in a disciplined and professional manner. - Not prepared to cut corners, even when cost and schedule may be affected. - Highly organised so that all testing activities are correctly and fully documented. - Ability to question senior staff when there are concerns that company process is not be being correctly followed. - Team Player with good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate confidently and persuasively with a wide variety of people. - Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure. - Highly self-motivated and the ability to work without supervision. - Flexible as some out of hours and weekend working may be required. - Able to generate work breakdown structures and produce estimates for work packages. - Prepared to work off site and abroad. This position may require exposure to information which is subject to US export control regulations, i.e. the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the UK.
