The facility performs cutting edge research into the structure and properties of materials at an atomic and molecular level. About The Role We now have an opportunity for an experienced Plant Engineer to lead a small team of dedicated engineers to design, develop and implement improvements to the cooling water systems on our world leading ISIS facility. ISIS has been operating successfully for over 25 years. The facility depends on the efficient and reliable operation of a variety of water systems (many using de-ionised water) to cool the multiple multi-megawatt electrical and mechanical systems that make up the accelerator and target systems that generate neutrons. It is now timely to re-examine the existing water systems, review and refine the upgrade strategy, propose improvements, and implement and commission the resultant upgraded water systems. The Plant Engineer will provide the overall technical and strategic direction for the water systems. They will lead the design of major upgrades to the water plant, as well as managing, tendering, procurement and delivery of approved designs, directing the commissioning stage and eventual handover to operational staff. You will also be responsible for liaising with a range of scientists, engineers and international stakeholders. Subsequently the role may require occasional UK and international travel. About You You will hold a degree and/or an HNC / HND in an appropriate Engineering discipline. Further qualifications relevant to plant design would also be beneficial. You will have proven experience in producing water plant designs to high standards, to meet demanding technical specifications, including some of the following fields: de-ionised water plant high temperature stability water plant chilled water plant design material selection efficient plant design (low energy footprint) flow and pressure drop calculations heat exchange calculations P and ID generation control and instrumentation understanding Further experience of piping manufacturing and installation techniques, along with experience in design risk assessments, and installation method statements will be beneficial. While a ny experience in active cooling systems and in project management (up to £250k projects) is desirable but not essential. You should display a good working knowledge of relevant British and European engineering standards. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be f ocused on delivering working, high quality solutions to meet project objectives.
