We are currently looking for a Chief Engineer - Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Battery Systems to work for a major Automotive organisation, engineering, strategic and environmental consultancy based in Warwickshire/Cambridgeshire Reference No: VAC-18884 Job Title: Chief Engineer - Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Battery Systems Experience: OEM Location: Warwickshire/Cambridgeshire Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum (D.O.E) Hours: 40 per week The Role: You will be primarily responsible for leading hybrid business development, proposal and project delivery activities - particularly in the areas of hybrid and electric vehicle high voltage battery systems, and associated technologies Your everyday tasks will include the provision of: - Technical and commercial leadership in developing new business opportunities - Compelling project proposals that demonstrate superior value to our customers - Outstanding project delivery You will be comfortable in meeting new customers and developing relationships, working closely with our commercial and sector leaders, and operating within the Global Product Group team and working with other Product Groups to win and deliver our mild hybrid projects Key Responsibilities: Understanding our client's business, including their organization, financial decision-making process and business challenges to create and sell solutions that respond to the client's value drivers Understanding our client's industry, including industry trends, financial measurements, key players and competitors, to develop and sell solutions that address client needs Defining strategy and new business streams for hybrid and electric vehicle battery systems: developing associated selling strategies and supporting material through collaboration with the global team, other product groups, market sectors, commercial and engineering teams Providing technical lead in developing business opportunities with relevant material and preparing proposals in response to Request For Quotations Direct responsibility for the development of proposals (documentation, plans, costing, commercial package) for global customers through to order conversion including successful contract negotiations Technical leadership of assigned hybrid and electric vehicle battery projects by: - Defining technical resource requirements for successful project execution - Maximizing team performance using standard processes - Leading technical reviews - Assessing cost/benefit trade-off of technical solution and leads decision making process - Draw upon technical expertise across a global organization to achieve optimal performance - Primary technical interface with client Support development of technology strategy and product offerings for hybrid and electric vehicle battery systems in the fields of passenger cars, commercial vehicles, off highway, marine, rail and stationary energy storage Developing and maintaining client network and relationships with senior level customer counterparts (Chief Engineer level and above) Mentoring key engineers and identifying requirements for skills development Skills and Experience: You will be degree qualified or higher, and ideally a chartered engineer with significant and proven industry track record in high voltage battery systems product design & application You will be seeking a move into a challenging environment that will broaden your proven ability and reward you with increased levels of responsibility and ownership. In order to be successful, you will be able to demonstrate: - A strong track record of hybrid and electric vehicle battery systems product development projects at a Tier 1 or OEM or consultancy - Proven skill in defining and preparing winning proposals, with the ability to develop strong, long-lasting customer relationships at senior level and profitable revenue streams - Deep understanding of cell chemistries used in hybrid & electric vehicles - Knowledge of battery system architectures and battery management systems - Experience of electrical and electronic component integration (up to 600V), design & development on low volume or high volume products (connectors, bus bars, cables, contactors & fusing) - A clear understanding of project delivery within a systems engineering environment - Familiar with product delivery process from requirements capture through to design validation of hybrid and electric vehicle battery systems - Experience in compliance engineering to external standards, such as, EMC, vehicle safety, functional safety ISO26262 etc. - Experienced in delivering DFMEA for hybrid or electric vehicle battery systems - Ability to plan and deliver projects within budget and within the scoped time - An ability to work under pressure and very tight timescales - An appreciation of and an ability to positively resolve issues arising from different cultures - High pro-activity to generate new ideas and promote business cases for patent application - Commercial awareness for preparation of projects and proposal development - Drive and commitment to deliver technically challenging projects - Able to be flexible on work location & prepared to travel in the UK & internationally on short assignments - Proactive, self-motivated, and attention to detail - Robust character with a strong drive and motivation to succeed - Excellent leadership, interpersonal and customer facing skills - Strong teamwork, organizational, oral communication, and written communication skills and ability to coordinate and lead multi-disciplined team Proven ability in the following areas is highly beneficial: Generating new opportunities for the business Preparation and presentation of technical papers Experience in a model-based development of controls algorithms in an automotive environment Hands on experience of working live with HV systems (>50V) Experience in calibration of Hybrid systems Analytical approach to developing controls algorithms in an automotive environment Familiar with laboratory & field development & test equipment Experience of DCDC converter and battery charger design and development Preparation and presentation of technical papers Ability to train junior engineers and develop a team Recruitment Consultant: Chris Murphy Telephone: Our clients are unable to provide sponsorship for Tier 2 visas; therefore only candidates eligible to work in the UK need apply Here at Cattrell Hudson we pride ourselves on the service we offer to both clients and candidates.
