Responsibilities for this Position:

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an opening for a Draftsperson to join our growing Mechanical Design and Engineering Services team. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

Key Responsibilities

The Draftsperson will perform the following duties working closely with a more experienced Drafter, a Designer, a Checker or an Engineer.

  1. Modify, and occasionally create, drawings for part, assembly, cables, wiring lists, and routing diagrams including proper application of views, dimensions, notes and material callouts
  2. May perform simple/small part or sub-assembly modeling
  3. May modify existing large assemblies
  4. Learns and applies documentation standards particular to each program including gaining proficiency using the proper format, learning application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (G.D. &T.) and learning proper application of datums on the drawings
  5. Identifies and anticipates problems and generates solutions
  6. Maintains information in job folder to efficiently and effectively complete job
  7. Provides estimates of time required to complete assigned work. Plans assigned work to support schedules
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of manufacturing processes and practices, drafting and CAD standards
  9. Coordinates the exchange of information between manufacturing, drafting and engineering

Additional Responsibilities
  1. Work closely in a team environment that encourages growth and learning from the knowledge and experience imparted by your peers
  2. Advise supervisor/managers on any anticipated delay in meeting schedules with reasons and recommended action

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of the need for formal engineering documentation of the design and the ability to effectively develop and evolve GDMS technology, process and documentation. The Draftsperson position requires a High School Diploma plus additional specialized training or Vocational High School with CAD concentration, and zero to one years of related experience.

The candidate will be able to demonstrate prior experience in the following areas: 3D solid modeling, 2D drawing detailing, ability to layout a drawing, understanding of and ability to setup views on detail drawings, basic understanding of and ability to apply basic dimensioning and tolerancing, documentation of electrical cabling or electronic systems, PTC Pro/Engineer, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office suite and the ability to organize, plan, track and execute on multiple tasks.

Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must be capable of meeting eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
