Johnson Controls is currently hiring a Mechanical Engineer III to work at our Cranston, RI location. An Mechanical Engineer with experience with Fire Protection Engineering, fire pumps, and hydraulics/fluid dynamics is strongly preferred.
The Mechanical Engineering Analyst will be responsible for providing expertise and technical leadership in applying numerical methods and algorithms to solve and analyze problems involving fluid flows in the field of fire and life safety.
•Responsible for the design, the development and the application of computational finite element analysis (i.e. Ansys Fluent/Mechanical) to understand and optimize current products/systems. Knowledge of FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) a plus.
•Stay abreast of and adopt, as appropriate, new technologies, new innovation processes and is comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment.
•Ability to work collaboratively with other engineering functions to drive prototype and proof of concept solutions into formalized new product development/new product introduction process.
•Develops and effectively communicates his/her ideas or improvements/variations on the ideas of others.
•Provides technical help and suggestions for other engineers. In general, shares his/her knowledge with others.
•Provides expertise and technical leadership in applying numerical methods and algorithms to solve and analyze problems involving thermal, fluids, and structural challenges.
•Solid understanding of applying mechanical engineering principles to analyze complex products to support goal of optimizing current designs and design processes.
•Working knowledge of the latest computational, such as Ansys Fluent/Mechanical and OpenFOAM, including pre-processing, simulation, and post-processing.
•Able to interpret simulation results and communicate results and findings to organization
•Hands-on contributor and team player
•Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
•Manages individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
-Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline. Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus.
-Experience working in Linux environment is a plus.
-5-10 years of relevant work experience. .
PRODUCT ENGINEERING SKILLS: Strong engineering analysis to verify product design. Have the ability to develop, plan and document engineering projects. Have the leadership qualities to oversee other team members such as designers, drafters and technicians and be a team player by working in cross functional teams members such as Manufacturing, Sales and Product Management.
LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to prepare presentations, and reports, and articles for publication, in the appropriate formats; ability to present same to management and/or other groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILS : Demonstrated understanding of and ability to apply advanced math concepts from algebra and calculus, including, but not limited to exponents, logarithms, trigonometry, polynomial equations/solutions, and statistics. Ability to apply these concepts to such tasks as: the determination of test reliability and validity, the analysis of variance, correlation, sampling and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY : Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
