Job purpose
Reporting directly to the Business Unit Director, the main role will be working with the line management within the Business Unit to improve Health, Safety and Environmental standards and act as a catalyst for cultural change throughout all levels of the organisation. As well as the aforementioned, the candidate will also likely to be required to oversee the training requirements for the region and liaise with local representatives from CITB, Skills academies etc.

  • Provide a source of competent advice on all health and safety matters.
  • Provide assistance if required with specialist health and safety assessments e.g. noise assessments.
  • Undertake regular inspections of company sites, offices and depots.
  • Provide briefing and coaching on implementation of company management systems.
  • Provide both formal and informal health and safety training to all levels of the organisation/workforce.
  • Participate in accident and incident investigations.
  • Other duties as required to promote and improve the health and safety standards and performance of the organisation.
  • Liaise with client / customer safety representatives.
  • Provide advice on environmental matters, acting as an environmental promoter and liaise with national environmental advisors
  • Be responsible for coordinating all training for staff and workforce
  • Liaise with local CITB representatives and attend CITB training group meetings promoting Skills Academies and its ideals throughout the region
  • Be proactive in advancing the use of shared apprentices within the company
  • Liaise with local colleges and schools in promoting the company and industry
  • Liaise with the Occupational health department
  • Act as a coordinator for all insurance matters, as and when required

Knowledge skills & experience
  • Enthusiastic in promoting first class health and safety standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously.
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively with a range of people.
  • Good knowledge of legislative requirements affecting Health And safety within the construction industry.
  • Experience of delivering health and safety related training (Desirable).
  • Experience of accident and incident investigations (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of construction training requirements (Desirable).
  • Awareness of environmental issues affecting construction industry (Desirable).
  • Experienced in managing Health, Safety & Environmental matters preferably within the construction industry.
  • Experience in overseeing and implementing training requirements (Desirable).

  • NEBOSH Certificate;
  • NEBOSH Diploma (Desirable);
  • Environmental training/qualification would be advantageous (Desirable);
  • Full UK driving licence;
  • Able to speak welsh (Desirable).

We are looking for an experienced Health, Safety, Environmental and Training manager to work from our office in South Wales, with the occasional requirement to attend meetings & conferences which may be held anywhere within the UK. This role is offered on a full time and permanent basis.
