Purpose of Role
Provide day-to-day assistance to the signalling Team Leader for the installation of signalling equipment, able to work alone and carry out installation tasks allocated to them. Assist in the successful delivery of a particular Carillion Rail projects or work package.

Principal Accountabilities
To undertake installation works as directed by the Team Leader for all signalling equipment required for the delivery of railway-signalling schemes in accordance with all company standards, Network Rail standards and best practice. This will include, but is not limited to the following: Adhere to the timescales stipulated for the works and advise the Team Leader of any difficulties in meeting the objectives. Lead a small group of staff when required. Work towards and achieve an IRSE licence in signalling installation 1.2.110. Undertake courses relevant to the post – PTS, COSS, Lookout & competencies (signalling) Assist in the on job training of new starters. Specific safety responsibilities include provision of relevant information, documentation, competencies & experience for all staff under their direction ensuring they undertake signalling installation to the appropriate safety standards & procedures at all times.

Additional Role Information
A Signalling Technician (Grade 2) may work as part of an installation team led by a Senior Technician or they may under take the lead of a small team made up of other technicians and assistants acting under the guidance of a Senior Technician or Team Leader.

Carry out all forms of signalling installation including but not limited to running of wire, cable termination, cable jointing, prefabrication of locations & REB, alterations to existing equipment, also carry out mechanical build-up/ set up of points equipment.

A technician will be expected to undertake safety duties associated with COSS/ SWL1.

A technician will ensure they work within the limitations of their Authority To Work and Certificate Of Competence.

Being a member of Carillion's Signalling Installation Group you will be required to assist on Plain Line Track Renewals and other SMTH/ G110 type works. A good understanding of this work is required and a desire to develop into a Signalling Maintenance Tester.
