We are seeking experienced Mechanical Engineers in power train design, to work either full-time or part-time as consultants in London, for good compensation according to experience and ability.

This is a state-of-the art and demanding research project looking at improved efficiency power trains, comprising a combustion engine linked to a transmission linked to an electrical generator / starter motor. Participants should be able to work, as and when needed, from basic principles, using hand calculations and sketches, before using current software.


ENGINE DESIGNER The candidate should be a generalist, familiar with almost all aspect of engine design, including much of combustion; fuel delivery; emissions control; scavenging and fluid flow; heat transfer; bearing deign; turbo machinery; materials; crankshafts and power out; gearing.

ENGINE SPECIALIST The specialist should have deep knowledge and design skills in one or more of the above disciplines, and perhaps also in electric motor / generator design.

EXPERIENCE: The candidate must have prior experience in power train design, be able to design individual components and how they are attached to each other. He or she should be creative, be able to come up with solutions to challenging problems.

SKILLS should include perfect written and spoken English; a clear and engaging telephone manner; knowledge of office computing software. The candidate should be able to credibly represent the Foundation solo at conferences and at key meetings; some travel within Europe may be involved, and will hopefully have contacts in the UK and European engineering community.

EMPLOYMENT could initially be full time or on a consulting / flexi-time basis for 10 to 25 hours weekly, prior to taking up one of several full-time positions. Arrangements are relatively flexible and could to a degree be tailored around the right candidate.
