Principal Design Engineer|
This is a great opportunity for a Principal Design Engineer in Newcastle / Northumberland, Tyne And Wear commutable from Newcastle, Cramlington, Annitsford, Beaconhill, Blyth, Morpeth, Seaton, Ashington, Whitley Bay, Newcastle upon Tyne, Stamfordham, Milbourne, Stannington, New Hartley, Gateshead paying approx £35,000-£45,000 per annum.
The successful Principal Design Engineer will be working for an employer who:

You will be a fundamental part of a mechanical engineering team to develop new innovations, continuous improvement activities and process improvements and develop a new culture of driven and dynamic engineers.
The role itself will include: Leading the Mechanical Engineering Design activities and resources and actively participate in the specification, design and development of the mechanical hardware and components in accordance with current legislation.
Leading the development and documentation of designprocesses for products designed within the company.
Responsible for the accuracy and successful delivery of product design projects, for the product definition and design phases, concessions and production permits.
Design, prototype, assess and review mechanical components and assemblies;
Provide support in product acceptance, testing and validation activities.
Prepare and participate in requirements and design review meetings;
Undertake analysis of mechanical components, assemblies and systems, as well as manufacturing and assembly processes;
Oversee and participate in prototyping activities;
Interfaces with customer relationship management team, contractors and suppliers and internal project teams.
Support of the design, manufacturing and shop floor activity when required.
Provide technical support for the company's product range across manufacturing, development and procurement.
Provide engineering support for material selection during the design and development phase, including the design and development of tests to verify performance.
Provide technical assistance to both external and internal customers, joining companyrepresentatives at customer sites as and when required.
Support the cross functional team in problem solving and troubleshooting.
Maintain a high level of technical knowledge coupled with ongoing professional development, for thejoint benefit for the job holder and the business.
Provide technical DFMEAs, reports and presentations as appropriate.
Work with the engineering team to oversee warranty and product return reviews.
Ideally degree qualified (preferably 2:1 or above) in an engineering field, either mechanical, structural or similar.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to interact with, and present to, engineers and stakeholders, especially in a cross - functional team environment.
Strong leadership skills either in projects or mentoring and leading engineers to support and develop their careers.
Strong character with the ability to drive, stimulate and motivate those people around you.
Diligent approach to the design and development process.
Excellent proficiency in using Autodesk's design suite especially Inventor and other associated CAD tools.
Knowledge of PDM systems and their potential to improve inter-departmental efficiencies.
Experience of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation and hand calculations for design analysis.
Material research experience and development of processes for products especially welding, profiling and other fabrication techniques.
