MRG are supporting major civil engineering contractor, who are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor (SQS) to join their team in East London.|
Reporting to the Project Manager on site, the SQS will be responsible for managing and administrating the contracted works. You will comfortable to work as a stand-alone Surveyor, who has demonstrated a stable career and looking to drive exceptional levels of profit. Commercially astute is a given.
Additionally, you should be able to effectively manage Surveyors and Assistant Surveyors to successfully deliver the project. On larger more intricate projects, the successful SQS may be required to carry out the same tasks for a section or sections of the works reporting to a Managing Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager.
This role would be ideal for an experienced, site-based Rail / Civil Senior Quantity Surveyor - required to work on site. Experience of the Rail sector - and additionally, a good working knowledge of NEC, is essential. Ideally the successful SQS will also be chartered.
To ensure there is effective cost management of the project, through accurate and regular forecasting and reporting;
Monitor and maximise cash flow;
To be aware of the contractual requirements of the project;
Advise the site team on key requirements;
Mentor the Surveyors and Assistant Surveyors within the project team;
In order to protect the business' contractual position, ensure that notices and other matters are actioned accordingly;
Lead and manage the procurement process to maximise profit;
Ensure subcontract orders are placed on time and in accordance with company policy.
Qualifications and Experience
Demonstrable experience of the UK civil sector - ideally, within Rail;
A relevant Degree; or - an accredited course by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES)
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Excellent understanding of pre-contract and post contract processes and requirements;
Contract Experience - in particular - NEC3.
