Responsibilities for this Position:

GDMS has an immediate opening for a UNIX System Administrator Supervisor to join our distributed UNIX team. The position provides an opportunity to develop cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense services and systems. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out critical national security missions supporting intelligence collection, processing and dissemination. The UNIX System Administrator Supervisor, along with supervising the UNIX team, will work with collaborative teams to ensure GDMS and client technologies are functioning as efficiently as possible. UNIX System Administrator Supervisors will be critical in the success of the team to provide information system solutions and technical support to GDMS and our clients. Responsibilities include supervising the UNIX team, working closely with the UNIX Manager, contributing to the support of personal computer and client server support, systems administration of UNIX based physical or virtual servers, applications support, storage support and system security. In this capacity, the successful candidate will:

  • Perform Supervisor duties that will include but not limited to insuring the teams service levels are met, deliverables are completed on time, contribute to yearly employee appraisals, work with customers and other line of service leads and work closely with the UNIX Manager to support team goals, budgets, staffing and team services.

  • Perform administration of UNIX systems including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Solaris based systems

  • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot RHEL version 5/6/7 and Solaris 10/11 systems

  • Solid understanding of global zones, non-global zones in Solaris, and installation of application in zones

  • Troubleshoot problems with UNIX based systems

  • Maintain and execute a Disaster Recovery Plan

  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical hardware including Dell, CISCO UCS, and Sun/Oracle servers, both rack mounted and blade.

  • Create shell scripts to automate repetitive processes

  • Work with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with UNIX servers

  • Perform administration of virtualized UNIX servers via VMware, vSphere, and VMware vSphere web client.

  • Perform analysis and logging of Host Intrusion Detection Systems tools like Splunk alerts

  • Monitor system and vendor management performance using tools like Solarwinds

  • Perform periodic security patching of servers based on recommended patch sets

  • Work with security compliance tools to patch UNIX environment and support security remediation

  • Performs data isolation and destruction in the event that sensitive data is allowed outside of its' proper enclave

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of technological systems and programming, and the ability to further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology.

The UNIX System Administrator Supervisor position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in a related specialized area or the equivalent experience and eight to ten years of related experience, or a master•s degree with five to eight years of related experience.

U.S. citizenship is required.

  • 2-5 years of experience in supervising UNIX centric staff or managing small UNIX centric teams a must.

  • Demonstrate that they can meet deliverables, manage small projects, meet UNIX centric services, provide leadership to a team and is comfortable with working with senior management.

  • Ability to work individually or collaboratively as part of a high-performance work team

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills

  • Skilled at clear and concise written and verbal communication

  • Knowledge and experience in the ITIL service framework a plus

  • Demonstrated expertise configuring, managing and troubleshooting variations of DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, Networking

  • Expertise with data center level backup systems & software, data storage solutions and legacy data center hardware/software solutions

  • Strong troubleshooting skills within the Unix OS as well as network and storage.

  • Proficiency performing administrative tasks using VMware vSphere.

  • Familiarity with VMware enterprise products as they pertain to administration of hosted Windows server Virtual Machines.

  • Familiarity with RHEL Satellite server configuration and support

  • Familiarity with Oracle administration desired

  • Familiarity with Solarwinds desired

  • Familiarity with Splunk desired
