General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Undersea Cable Systems Engineer to join our design and development team. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to design and development the systems, processes and tools that support internal and client operations. The Undersea Cable Systems Engineer will provide technical leadership in the design and development of the submarine and undersea cable communication systems to include, specification development, planning, manufacturing, and deployment. The position will: execute analysis requiring knowledge of high-bandwidth and high-reliability communications, including theory and practices and perform engineering studies to determine requirements and long-range engineering plans and designs; support the planning of systems installations based upon system requirements and oceanographic data; develop procurement specifications for system manufacturing and identify requirements and a timeline for installation using cable laying ships; support contract management and assist in the oversight of the production contractor, including component qualification and system test and evaluation; assist in troubleshooting and failure analysis of systems due to hardware failure or cable damage.
The position requires experience and knowledge of marine subsea electronics packaging for full ocean depth applications. The candidate will be a member of the Integrated Seaborne Systems organization located in Greensboro, North Carolina. This position may require up to 35% travel, including shipboard deployments.

The Undersea Cable Systems Engineer experience should include high-level mission current & future capabilities, gap analysis, solution concept and architecture development, and mission satisfaction analysis including cost. The preferred candidate will also have a good understanding of the customer enterprise system and end-user groups and have experience generating and communicating a vision for new systems to solve emerging mission needs.
