About the Business Line
We create comprehensive delivery solutions for water, wastewater and wet weather systems, desalination, water resources, water reuse, tunneling, and community infrastructure through traditional and alternative delivery services such as program management and design-build.

Job Summary
The primary role of the Operations Manager is to support the Civil Infrastructure (CI) Operations Lead, Africa and will be allocated to Business Lines to provide support in overseeing all operational measures necessary to secure planned project delivery in Africa and, in so doing, also contribute to the overall profitability of the Business Line.

In this role they will be required to:
  • Ensure compliance and best practice with all company procedures, particularly those associated with health and safety, risk, quality, financial management and core values.
  • Participate in the winning of work, primarily through the approvals process.
  • Be the secondary point of contact for corporate liaison on any operational procedures, protocols or initiatives.
  • Manage all processes associated with project and business line cost control.
In all areas, the Operations Manager will work closely with the Operations Lead, the Business Line Leaders and Financial Lead and may be required, on occasion, to deputise where matters to be discussed or reviewed are of an operational nature.

Key Responsibilities:

Profitable Delivery:
  • Provide support for the delivery of Business Line Net Service Revenue, Gross Margin and cash collection across Africa.
  • Manage and oversee all commercial aspects of project delivery with an emphasis on delivering appropriate training, advice and protocols to ensure consistent achievement of Cost to Complete forecasts and programme whilst maximising working capital and minimising claims.
  • Conduct monthly project reviews and healthy start reviews.
  • Ensure that in every region there is early warning of commercial, legal or client relationship problems through regular (at minimum monthly) review of all projects.
  • Ensure that for every 'at risk' project, there is a clear recovery plan with reporting milestones.
  • Ensure that all project delivery activity conforms to AECOM Risk Management procedures and is fully compliant with the requirements of APIC, ePM and SOX.
  • Assist Business Line Leader with PM development and management.
Cost Control:
  • Assist with cost control of Business Line overheads in tandem with the Finance Lead.
Reporting and Communication:

As an operational member of staff within the CI End Market, the Operations Manager will have further duties associated with planning and communication. These will include the following:
  • Provide an updated and accurate monthly forecast of the Contracted and Awarded elements of committed revenue across all Projects nationally. Monthly updating the R24 and the Forecaster.

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 5-7 years' experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Honours and / or Bachelor's Degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • Post graduate commercial qualification will be advantageous.
