About Oxford Genetics: We are a fast-growing synthetic biology company specialising in DNA design, protein expression optimisation and cell line development technologies and services. Soon to be based in dedicated facilities on The Oxford Science Park, just four miles south-east of Oxford city centre, we are within easy commuting distance of central Oxford, Abingdon, Bicester, Aylesbury and High Wycombe.|
The Position Offered:
We seek an IT technician to assist in the development, maintenance and administration of our growing office and laboratory IT infrastructure. In particular, as we move towards GLP (good laboratory practice) compliance in the new year, the successful applicant will be involved in setting up information management and version control systems, automatic file and database back-up routines, and infrastructure-wide encryption policies. The primary responsibilities of the successful applicant will be to provide comprehensive IT support for our staff, to administrate our network, and to manage the provisioning and deployment of new IT equipment, including - but not limited to - staff laptops, laboratory workstations, remote telepresence solutions, and wireless access points. Secondary responsibilities could include the architecture of cloud-based data management solutions (building on, for instance, Amazon Web Services), the installation and maintenance of both legacy and modern life sciences laboratory equipment, or the design of an IoT (Internet-of-Things) mesh for laboratory monitoring, depending on expertise and personal interests.
The Applicant Sought:
The successful applicant will be a self-motivated problem solver with excellent communication skills and a passion for learning about modern technology. Although basic training can be provided on all mission-critical systems, the successful applicant will ideally already have some experience co-administrating Windows Server-controlled domains, and will also have a working knowledge of computer networking and network security best practices. Experience with Active Directory administration, PowerShell scripting, Hyper-V virtualisation, and application layer protocols (DNS, DHCP, SSH, and LDAP) will be advantageous. The successful applicant will work closely with and report to our head of bioinformatics.
Salary: £20,000 - 30,000 pa, Depending on Experience
