In this job you will be...
- Providing telephone technical support to South Lanarkshire Council Establishments
- Providing advice and problem solving expertise on technical problems and queries
- Troubleshooting - problem resolution will be mainly through the use of remote tools such as NetOp or Centrastage
- Providing support to site visits may also be required
- Ensuring systems are updated on a real time basis including detailed and accurate call notes.
- Ensuring calls are progressed and closed in line with contracted service level agreements
- Escalating any issues on call progression or customer issues (Some equipment handling may be required)
The Customer Support Engineers provide a managed service to all South Lanarkshire Council educational establishments - secondary schools, primary schools, early learning and youth establishments, libraries and others. This support covers servers, networked and standalone computers as well as active network infrastructure such as routers and switches. Problem resolution is achieved by the use of remote support tools such as NetOp and Centrastage, which are installed on all networks. There is also a requirement to carry out site visits on a rota basis and this role may be required to accompany other engineers on site visits. Calls must be managed to achieve the contracted service delivery targets. There needs to be a strong customer focus, with a proactive approach to service delivery. In addition, the Customer Support Engineers are often involved in delivering project work such as installations and software roll outs. Some manual handling is required within this role.
Your training will...
Start with a 12-14 month IT apprenticeship, which consists of training in small groups and work based assessment covering: Operating systems, Server administration, Customer support, Networking and Security.
You will gain a Diploma for Information Technology & Telecommunications Professionals SCQF Level 6 plus MCP in Windows 7/8 Configuration and Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1.
