Job Title: Senior Civils Engineer (CRE)
Job Type: Permanent
Location: Walsall, West Midlands
Salary: Negotiable dependent on experience
Duties and Responsibilities
A leading client within the UK Rail Electrification marker is recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer (CRE) who will be accountable for the provision of planning, scheduling and management of the works being undertaken.
Key responsibilities include:
Set a personal example by complying with Policy and Procedures for Health and Safety
Liaise with the rest of the project team, clients, designers, subcontractors, suppliers and other key stakeholders to ensure safe, timely delivery of a quality product (weekly section meetings, subcontract meetings etc.)
Liaise with Project Planner to coordinate section plans and progress reports
Prepare weekly programmes for the works and monitor progress
Plan, manage and monitor the construction of the works to an acceptable level of quality
Ensure that Inspection and Test Plans are prepared and implemented
Ensure that safe systems of work are prepared in a timely manner and followed, including the work of other contractors or sub-contractors
Ensure appropriate training and professional development for yourself, employees under your control and subcontractors
Ensure all employees under your control are competent and adequately trained in the operation of necessary plant and equipment and the processes involved in the workplace
Ensure that liaison with any external stakeholders is carried out, monitored and controlled technically, physically and environmentally for the work to progress on time
Prepare and present reports as required
Attend and contribute to project meetings
To maintain and operate Network Rail Safety Critical Procedures
Educational, Knowledge & Experience Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
Educated to Degree level
2 to 5 years' experience as Senior Engineer
Experience in Network Rail OLE projects is mandatory
Knowledge of Project Controls including earned value and schedule risk analysis
Ability to communicate the planning strategy for complex projects to the wider team
Experience of working within a collaborative environment
Ability to use appropriate computer software and packages including CAD software
Business & Personal Competencies
Excellent communication skills, including drafting of written documentation.
Quick learner
Adaptable, motivated and uses own initiative
Able to manage a team but also work collaboratively as part of one
Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Interest in technical subjects
Civil Engineering Degree or appropriate experience depending on NR.
Additional responsibilities from the JD
Temporary works coordinator
Railway electrification foundations knowledge
Surveying and setting out knowledge and experience
Knowledge of civils works (rail)
Construction as opposed to design experience
Railway knowledge in general mandatory
Mining experience advantageous but not required
Not someone who can build bridges/platforms
Railway OLE foundations mandatory
Good computer skills
