Job Summary
Our Birmingham office is currently seeking a Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation team. The role would suit a proactive, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. This position would ideally suit someone with a transport planning or traffic modelling background.

AECOM's Birmingham Traffic team has an established track record of successfully delivering major schemes to clients across the region, nationally and internationally. The team provides development control and spatial planning advice as well as concept, preliminary and detailed design, and traffic modelling services on a wide range of projects and supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a highway interface.

We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload. Our position on a number of significant regional and national Transportation Frameworks provides the team with excellent opportunities across the local government / public sector market ensuring an exciting future and varied workload.

Job responsibilities:

The appropriate level of expertise is required in order that the following responsibilities can be carried out to the necessary standards:
  • Provide development control, spatial planning and transport strategy advice.
  • Receive project brief and undertake traffic modelling and scheme assessment.
  • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design.
  • Act as a Deputy Project Manager (once accredited) as necessary including costing and programming studies and monitoring financial performance.
  • Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief and AECOM's quality procedures.
  • Manage sub-consultants to produce deliverables against agreed timescales and in line with budget.
  • Attend internal and external Project Progress meetings and represent the Client at planning/project meetings.
  • Prepare detailed client briefs, fee proposals, technical responses and study reports for Manager approval and contribute to major bids.
  • Support team manager in mentoring junior staff.

Minimum Requirements
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Geography, Economics, Planning or a related discipline.
  • Experience of undertaking a range of traffic engineering design projects and studies.
  • Excellent technical and communication skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in transport planning, spatial planning and traffic design at concept, feasibility and preliminary stages.
  • Experience in modelling and using LINSIG, TRANSYT, VISSIM/ PARAMICS
  • Understanding of Health and Safety.
  • Experience in spatial planning, development control, transport strategy, cycling, walking, road safety, public transport and parking design.
  • Demonstrable application of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Traffic Signs Regulations and Traffic Signs Manuals.
  • Reasonable geographical flexibility (within the UK) to support project and business requirements.

  • You will have a relevant degree and will be working towards an appropriate professional status with membership of a relevant professional institution.
