Our client is a successful main contractor working on retail construction, fit out and refurbishment projects for leading high street brands. This typically provides a fast paced and challenging environment within which to work and we are looking for a dynamic individual to fulfil a forthcoming permanent Quantity Surveyor vacancy in a friendly open plan office.|
The ideal candidate will have gained a construction related degree and be working within the industry as a Quantity Surveyor and have experience of reputable construction and/or fit out contractors.
The position includes overall responsibility for the management of projects from tender stage through to completion. Ultimately a strong sense of commercial management is required for the role and you would be expected to become involved in a wide range of issues that may arise. However specific duties may include:
Preparation of costing documentation and preparation of tenders
Preparation and management of subcontract enquiries and subcontractor tender returns, dealing with all queries as they arise in a timely manner
Preparation of subcontractor cost comparison and subcontractor selection reports
Measurement (from both drawings and site visits) of works elements to maximize income earning opportunity including the preparation of bills of quantities. The ability to measure from CAD would be an advantage
Assisting Contracts Management with cost control and reduction, claims and the valuation of subcontractor works for interim payment and Final Account settlement
The timely preparation of ongoing Cost Reports for both Client and internal management purposes
Preparation and collation of supporting information for Clients Final Accounts submission and settlement
Identification and minimisation of financial risk within projects
Liaison with management to understand all necessary commercial aspects of each department including liaising with colleagues and site staff where input and support is required.
Maintain and enhance relationships with existing and new subcontractors and suppliers, and the Client's Team
Ideally you will be a Degree Qualified Quantity Surveyor or possess similar relevant qualifications
Substantial experience in quantity surveying within relevant construction environments is essential, along with strong problem solving, analytical and negotiation skills
You must be a strong communicator at all levels, from dealing with subcontractors through to client facing situations
A good working knowledge of IT is essential, particularly MS Excel
CSCS card required
Experience of working with various forms of contract advantageous
Excellent communication skills will be essential as you will be liaising with Clients, Consultants, sub-contractors and senior management.
You will be qualified to degree level or equivalent and have experience at a similar level, or be looking to take the next step on the career ladder. Membership of a recognised professional body is desirable.
