Quarry Operative - Black Cat

Our client is the largest independent construction materials group in the UK. They operate nearly 60 quarries, 27 asphalt plants, just under 200 ready-mixed concrete & mortar plants and three concrete block plants throughout England, Wales and Scotland, employing more than 2,100 people.

They are currently seeking a Quarry Operative, based at their Black Cat Quarry near Bedford.

You will work alongside the Quarry Supervisor to ensure the safe and efficient running of the quarry on a day-to-day basis. Your main duties will be to operate the quarry to produce aggregate in line with customer requirements whilst maintaining quality levels and ensuring that a high standard of housekeeping is sustained on site. You will also need to drive a front end loading shovel and carry out maintenance tasks such as greasing, as well as simple repairs, as required.

Ideally you will have experience of working in a quarry and weighbridge environment, and a basic understanding of inert landfill. Practical basic maintenance experience and skills are essential in this role. It is also important that you have the confidence to work at heights, are IT literate, and possess good communication skills as you will be dealing with members of the public. It would be advantageous if you have a front end loading shovel qualification and certification.

You will be required from time to time to carry out your duties at their Potton and Willington quarries in the Bedfordshire area. As such, you will be provided with a van to travel between sites, so a full driving licence is essential.

The Group places the highest importance on sustained standards of excellence in all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental management and you will be expected to contribute to the Company's zero harm culture.

A competitive remuneration package will be offered including business-use van, pension and life assurance.

CLOSING DATE: 12th October 2016

By applying for this role, your details will be sent to Ortolan People, who are acting as consultants for the hiring company. Ortolan People are engaged to provide recruitment support in processing applications. We will endeavour to respond to all applicants within three working days. Occasionally for roles with a very high volume of applicants, this may not be possible
