General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is looking for an expert Senior IT Security Engineer to join our team to ensure that our applications and infrastructures are designed and implemented to the highest standards maintaining and enhancing customer trust. You will participate in security audits, risk analysis, vulnerability testing and security reviews on many cutting-edge systems.

Highlights of Responsibilities:

The Senior IT Security Engineer is a member of the Network Security team and performs technical activities for delivering effective host, network, data, and application security services. This position will have primary responsibility for security platforms in the production environment, as well as development, quality-assurance and staging environments.

The Senior IT Security Engineer's responsibilities include security system deployments, configuration, monitoring and reporting. This position will have a lead role in performing vulnerability assessments, security testing, and working with operations and development teams on remediation and mitigation of findings. The Senior IT Security Engineer's primary role will be to provide support to planning, designing and implementing security controls which safeguard and monitor events for information systems, enterprise applications and data. In addition, s/he will:

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and investigate security-related, information systems' anomalies based on security platform reporting, network traffic, log files, host-based and automated security alerts

  • Maintain, configure, and analyze network and host-based security platforms

  • Evaluate systems using vulnerability scanners and manual techniques to verify system security settings and configurations

  • Provide reoccurring reports for network and host-based security solutions

  • Provide CSIRT support as needed in response to information security related events

  • Participate in continuous improvement processes

  • Maintain and update relevant system and process documentation and develop ad-hoc reports as needed

  • Assist the development of security tool requirements, trials, and evaluations, as well as security operation procedures and processes

  • Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with all team members

  • Provide off-hours support on an infrequent, but as needed basis

  • Successfully manage time and technical responsibilities, set accurate expectations and meet deliverable deadlines while working in a team and information sharing environment

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's in Computer Science, Network Security, Information Systems and 8 years of demonstrated results, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree recommended.

This position requires a TS/SCI security clearance. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

The successful Senior IT Security Engineer must have:

  • Hands on experience with command line UNIX security audits

  • Experience working with DoD classified IT system security configuration and processes is highly desirable

  • Current CISSP certification or other DoD IAT Level III certification (CISA, GCIH, GCED, CISSA, or CASP CE)

  • Working knowledge technical knowledge of UNIX/LINUX and windows operating systems commands and utilities

  • Well versed in IT government security accreditations and certification IAW DCID 6/3,ICD 503, NISPOM, NIST, DIACAP and other approved government IT security standards, policies and directives

  • Extensive hands on experience with UNIX test experience within a lab environment

  • Strong experience with documenting test environments, requirements, results and POAM resolution

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Essential Skills:

  • Experience with Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) platform

  • Experience with Application (Layer 7) Firewall
