Scott Safety specializes in respiratory protection devices including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), gas and flame detection products and personal protective equipment (PPE). Main end use markets include Fire Services, Military and Civil Defense, Petro-Chemical Oil and Gas, Marine and general industrial markets.
The Mechanical Engineer position is responsible for the design of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). A successful candidate will search out new and improved technologies, materials, and processes that create performance advantages. Candidates will ensure that standards of quality, costs, reliability, safety and timelines are met.
Candidates will be responsible for providing documentation and sufficient performance data to assess form, fit and function for performance, reliability and manufacturability as well as facilitate approval of products with regulatory agencies. Candidate must work closely with other mechanical and electrical engineers, designers and lab technicians to optimize SCBA designs.
Ideal candidates will have a working knowledge of high pressure pneumatics (greater than 1,000 psi), pneumatic circuits, fluid mechanics, 3D solid modeling ((Inventor preferred), GD&T, FEA, and statistics (Minitab). Experience with injection molding, sheet metal design, and precision machined components is desirable.
Education and Experience (Required)
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering required.
2 years minimum experience in mechanical design required.
Experience with SCBA or SCUBA products desirable.
Experience with the design of products in a high production environment desirable.
Design experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, valves, pneumatic circuits, etc. is desirable.
