The open international tax manager level position provides the opportunity to join a seasoned and dynamic 37 person global tax team in six domestic and international locations. The position is located at our San Francisco headquarters, reporting to the Corporate/Americas International Tax Director. As a member of the global international tax team, you will have the opportunity for broad experience in all aspects of the "cradle to grave" tax life cycle, working closely with the Head of International Tax, regional international tax directors, as well as with the Principal Vice President of Tax. You will advise our business teams on a wide range of corporate and international tax issues in connection with engineering and construction projects throughout the world. You will also gain an overview of the company's global operations, working closely with all our regional tax directors to support and coordinate foreign tax compliance, provision and forecasting for our many foreign entities as well as prepare the consolidated foreign tax provision for the Bechtel Group. You will also oversee a new global engagement for transfer pricing documentation.

Examples of duties in this key broad scoped positon include but are not limited to:
  • Working closely with business unit finance and project personnel and other Tax team members in supporting/advising on international projects worldwide, with a focus on the Americas region, on a variety of local foreign and cross border corporate international tax matters including entity structuring, permanent establishment issues, tax treaty impacts, indirect and withholding tax planning, monitoring and advising on transfer pricing matters and contract language. Included as part of working in the full tax life cycle, is strategic quarterly review of the project/country forecasts and provision to ensure the tax planning is properly carried out.
  • Review tax assessments, assist as necessary with tax queries or audits by foreign tax authorities in Americas region including supporting tax objections or appeals working closely with local tax advisors.
  • Support implementation of global TP documentation engagement. Oversee and review preparation of largely outsourced transfer pricing documentation including global master file, country by country report and local files in Americas region. Coordinate with Head of International Tax and Corporate/Americas International Tax Director on strategic transfer pricing issues.
  • Review regional forecasts, foreign tax provisions, and tax reserves. Coordinate with regional tax managers as necessary, to ensure regional planning and risk mitigation strategies are properly implemented.
  • Research and analyze US and foreign country tax laws, prepare written advice to the business/projects on tax matters and entity structuring, and review/monitor projects for compliance with advice.

Required skills and experience:
You will have reached manager level in the corporate tax advisory team of an accounting firm (preferably one of the "Big 4") and be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
  • Minimum 6 years of international and corporate tax advisory experience with a demonstrated ability for strategic analysis, problem solving, and an understanding of corporate tax accounting.
  • CA / CPA qualified; Masters in Tax a plus
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. international and/or foreign tax rules and tax accounting standards. Transfer pricing experience very desirable.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to think strategically and critically.
  • Excellent analytical "what if" and "why" skills coupled with good tax accounting and quantitative abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at technical level with ability to provide meaningful business-oriented advice to project business team members.
  • Ability to conduct tax research, draw conclusions, and document technical tax positions.
  • Strong team player with demonstrated leadership ability who is customer focused and has ability to communicate cross-functionally (with non-tax business personnel).
  • Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to work and communicate clearly across cultures including with advisors and business team members having English as their second language.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision, and able to work to deadlines and manage multiple tasks; also with self-awareness of when to ask for help and/or flag material issues/ambiguities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience in One Source and/or CFAR/Oracle a plus.
  • Limited occasional travel may be required.

Grade determination will be made based on years of relevant work experience.
