General Dynamics Global Imaging Technologies has an immediate opening for a Senior Principal Electrical/Software Engineer to join our Operations team. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to design and development the systems, processes and tools that support internal and client operations. Key Responsibilities of this position are:

This position is responsible for handling all aspects of design engineering and development of complex electro-mechanical systems and components by performing the duties listed below.

Essential functions of this position are:

  • Prepares or directs preparation of product and/or system layout, circuit design, detailed drawings and schematics

  • System interface design and integration (e.g. Ethernet, USB, SPI, CAN bus, RS-232, RS-422)

  • Performs motion control design/analysis of electro-mechanical systems (mechatronics)

  • Creates specification reviews, generates technical proposals and selects subsystems and components to meet requirements

  • Experience in robotics is a plus

  • Performs Matlab/Simulink modeling, design synthesis and/or systems analysis. (optional)

  • Embedded software/firmware development

  • C Programming Language experience is a must

  • Creates Virtual Instrumentation: Creating GUI (Graphical User Interface) control panels for industrial systems, for purposes such as automated product testing, measurement and calibration, data acquisition and logging, and end-user product interfaces (e.g. LabWindows CVI and/or LabView)

  • Experience in the full cycle from capturing customer requirements to concept and prototype design, testing and qualification, production, and product support is a plus

  • Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype products and/or systems

  • Compiles and analyzes operational and test data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment and/or products

  • Assists in trouble-shooting when necessary

  • Assists other disciplines in designing system level products when assigned

Basic Qualifications:

The applicant should possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or applicable science or engineering degree and a minimum of 10 years related experience.

  • Electrical design including background in analog and digital circuit design and software programming in C

  • Design experience related to motion control is a plus

  • The applicant must be proficient with computer assisted engineering and design software

Applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
