Job Summary
AECOM has multiple Part Time positions available for Mechanical Technicians. These positions are for conducting machinery assessments and watertight closure repairs on Coast Guard vessels. Primary skills required are in machinery assessment; water closure assessment and repair skills can be provided to candidates with some previous Damage Control training.

Machinery Assessment Essential Responsibilities
  1. Perform machinery assessment on main propulsion and auxiliary systems at the component level
  2. Conduct Thermal Imaging surveys
  3. Conduct borescope inspections
  4. Verify motor to pump/compressor alignment
  5. Perform all other position related duties as requested or assigned
Watertight Door Repair Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Perform assessment and repair to various water tight doors, hatches and scuttles
  2. Provide instructional repair for Coast Guard Damage Control Petty Officers
  3. Work performed on Coast Guard vessels requires travel. Most machinery assessment and watertight closure repair visits are conducted outside of the Norfolk VA area.
  4. Perform all other position related duties as requested or assigned

Minimum Requirements
  • Vocational/technical training beyond high school and at least three (3) years of job-related experience with US Navy or Coast Guard Damage Control and Engineering Systems.
  • Excellent communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs.
  • A minimum of two (2) years general experience in operating Navy or Coast Guard vessel main propulsion or auxiliary machinery.
  • Skilled in working with hand tools and various power tools.
  • A thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to access DoD facilities (Rapid Gate or Common Access Card).
  • Ability to obtain a Travel Expense Credit Card.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance if required.
